It rained all day Sunday so I did not ride; but I used the downtime to do a massive clean-up/purge/re-org of the storage cabinet in our bike room. Man, I am such a pack-rat! Apparently I like to collect zip-lock bags. Also seatposts: We found a half-dozen perfectly good seatposts tucked away on various shelves, all gathering dust. Off to eBay I guess.

Today I commuted to work, will wind up with The Usual ~19 Miles™

We are having a little break in the nasty weather, so I got in 80 minutes yesterday and 50 minutes today.

18 miles Monday afternoon after some drivetrain tweaks. Legs felt dead but average speed was about the same as usual. Temp was in the 50s but felt much colder. All of which shows perceptions and reality still don't get along.

...unless the wind is just as bad tonight as it was this morning, then I reserve the right to bail and drag my bike onto the subway home! 14mph average wind speeds with gusts up over 30mph; the air temp was 32°F but the wind-chill/Real Feel® said it was 20°F. Winter be here.

Was hoping to do a "Midnight Madness" ride but cold/humid weather put a chilling stop to that idea. Waited for sun to rise and headed out with temps at 57°F and mild wind so able to finish up with 120 miles.

Was about to end a nice gravel ride today when I realized my iPhone was missing from my pocket. I usually have it in one of my jersey pockets but ,doh, not today. I basically had to do my ride twice. lol Didn't find it. Went home, called my number, someone turned it in to a nearby daycare. Still good people out there. Of course my Find My iPhone app wasn't on.

A couple days ago a very nice before-midnight loop through lightly-populated areas. This was the first day it was feasible to ride following pepper-spray-up-the-nose disease (a vicious cold). Came back through a small town, and saw lots of police, repeatedly; so often, one could get the idea one was being followed. Hopefully they were just bored.

Nice pictures. That lets us souttherners imagine a real winter.

19 miles as a bike commuter today: About 30F on the ride in and in the 40's riding home. Depending on the weather next week, today may have been my last-ever bike-to-work day.

15 mile solo road ride this morning, all before sunrise.

Note to self: Bring a better headlight next time you try an asinine stunt like that.

Yesterday evening, a 30-minute hill workout in the neighborhood, then down off the mountain, down around the corner and up to a neighboring peak and return for another 34 minutes. I managed to get rubber legs, which I almost never do, so that's a good workout. Between three months off after a crash at the start of the year and two months off for plantar fasciitis late summer, I've lost a lot of emotional forward momentum this year, had to practice patience instead. It's good to heat up the burners again.

EDIT: forgot to mention, I scored a nice endorphin buzz too. This is a rare treat. I was sitting on the couch afterwards, thinking, I just feel really fine, then I realized.

Casual 23 mile night ride to look at Christmas lights. Not quite as many decorated homes as usual, but still a pleasant ride.

Believe it or not, I was FINALLY able to get my beloved '85 Fuji out and go for a quick ride. Been so busy lately on weekends, it's not funny....

Just 2 weeks ago, the Richmond, VA area got buried in a foot of snow and it was around 24°F for days on end. Everything shut down. I was off my school bus as they closed schools for almost the entire week!

Anyway, here we are on the 21st of December, and Mother Nature went all crazy again, and it's now an incredible 66°F outside, but windy. I jumped at the chance to go for a quick ride while I could, since I'm on Christmas break from my bus, and don't go back until after New Years. 6.25 miles in 25:12 for a quick spin through the neighborhood side streets... Nothing special...

Here's the back entrance of the Collegiate School here in town.

Here's a view looking back up the side road called Sierra, and the wet road and leaves, pine needles, twigs, etc... all over the place. I was careful not to make high speed turns!

During my bicycle ride to Walmart today I had a few insistence's when forward motion was almost halted. Our winds have been formidable with gusts of 40+mph. Was happy having them at my back on the way home since the rains returned just then and the bit of a push was much appreciated.

No rain+wind today, so I managed to get in 15.5 miles... I've been on the rollers the past few days and it was great to ride outdoors!

The Sun finally made an appearance today, but that 10 mph cold wind made it feel a lot less than 54F.
Despite the wind I got in 55 minutes.

Sunny here today but only up to the low 40's. Which ain't bad for Late December in America's Heartland. Got out for a ten mile ride with a couple of small hills.

It was cool but sunny and the wind wasn't terrible. I got in 25 miles. One more ride and I will have 250 rides for the year, way over my previous personal best.

First group ride after the total hip replacement 4 1/2 months ago. I had ridden several solo rides but not at today’s speed and intensity staying with the riders in our local Bike Club. I know I gave it all I had as my hip is now a little stiff and just a touch achey. Total miles was just short of 50 miles with 2500’ of hills. I really felt the hills the last half of the ride. I have a LOT of work to do before I can think of doing the 100 milers that used to be pretty routine. But it’s a start!

Yes, 8 mile climb 2300 ft gain. Nice day, cool and some sunshine, perfect for the climb.

A couple days ago to the library in fairly foul weather, still misting after rain, gusty and cold. The people at the desk gave me the look that said "you must be crazy, riding in this weather." (I was returning The Hobbit, Disk 1 and Disk 2. Disk 1 put me to sleep and I almost sent them both back without watching any more, but Disk 2 was totally worth it. Things picked up greatly with the addition of a dragon. I still have Disk 3 to look forward to.)

Today a hill workout in the neighborhood after dark. I was going to head out later for more but I saw that my seat post was badly bent, with a clear dimple on the back side at the bend. I knew it was already slowly bending but when I climbed on this time I was sliding toward the back of the seat. The good news is I now know how much setback I need for my replacement post, and the answer is two inches, since that's how far back this one is bent, and that feels about right, once I leveled out the seat again. The bad news is no seated riding until I get a replacement. And, that two-inch setback is hard to find.

Sunday: 40 mile mixed dirt/pavement group ride with five other people
Today: Apparently it snowed last night? Not riding.
