I only ride my fatbike on regular roads and hard cycle paths. The pressures I use ar around 20PSI for the rear tyre and 18PSI for the front. I'm wondering whether I should lower the pressures a little? What pressures would you guys recommend for riding on tarmac? My fattie has 4-inch Jumbo Jims.

I am running similar pressures but have no idea if that is ideal or not so watching this thread with interest.

I experimented a bit today by setting pressures as follows:

Front: 12 PSI
Rear: 15 PSI

The ride was MUCH better. The bike seemed more planted to the road and I felt a lot more in control of the bike. I'm going to drop the pressures by a further 1-2 PSI on my next ride but I think I'm already at the sweet spot for my bike. It felt like a completely different bike with bumps being soaked up a lot better and, overall, the ride felt smoother. This was over a distance of 25KM (15 miles).

I've got the 4.8" JJ. I was actually going UP from 10#. Last ride was 13#, I think it still would feel better a bit higher, unfortunately my "precision" gauge is near the end of its range at those pressures.

I use a 15 psi gage.

~6 psi front and ~12 psi rear (I weigh 175#). I go on tarmac to go to the trails, but never adjust pressure forth and back since that tiny difference in rolling resistance is less than my pumping energy.

I assume you use higher pressure because of rolling resistance. I never noticed a difference. The resistance is because of the tread pattern, not how much pressure you have (within reason)

When the Jumbo Jims wear out then I'll replace them with tyres more suitable to road cycling.
