I wonder what the story is with that lady... she clearly has something disturbing her other than us riding our bikes in a bloody bike lane.

Shoulda told her we were going to ride on I-5! No bike lanes but no white bikes either, must be safe, right?

The I-5 was as clean as my bartape! Except for a large collection of identical ... brake pad holders? Not sure what, saw about 6 or 7 of them at various points.

The stroopwafels! Those things are magic. Those EXACT ones were delicious. Gonna have to load up on those.

Riding on the 5 - yes THE shoulder was exceptionally clean except for those identical parts every mile or so, weird. Worst part of riding there is the traffic noise. Stroopwafels - never had them that I can recall, look tasty!

$9 for a package of 40 Stroopwafels (not individually wrapped but baggies are cheap)

@jimincalif very tasty and easy to eat while riding.

If you have ever had honey stingers, these are more substantial and taste better, but the concept is the same. (by substantial, I mean honey stingers always reduced themselves to crumbs during a ride. Still good but not really the same.)

Maybe they have Stroopwafers, in case I want to try the Belgian Wafer Ride?

I don't know that I could do the full waffle, and given travel and family commitments already in place next year (like my daughter's wedding in KY the weekend before BWR) I don't think I could sufficiently train for the whole waffle.

Just sit around the house eating the stroopwafels and drinking Lost Abbey beer. you'll be happier.

Speaking of sitting around the house, where was ahultin yesterday? I couldn't see any of the tags in the first post (seems to be a chrome problem on iphone, no idea why) so I missed Mr Empty Nester.

The wife only hollered at me a little for bailing on the ride for her-- I'm definitely better at judging her condition than she is. We ate right there at the San Clemente Pizza Port, did a few more miles up and down the beach, then caught the 1:46pm train back to ARTIC. Had the bikes unloaded and the clothes in the washer by 4pm. No regrets.

Oddly, even though that was maybe a 50% intensity ride for me, and the Garmin Recovery Advisor said a whopping 11 hours, I was starving all day. Couldn't stop eating. I made no efforts at resistance.

Sounds like you had a good time, so it’s a success. Mrs. Isotope did great.

Mrs. iTrek, was just asking me about this Friday night. I have not been on here since the thread first started and I thought it had already passed. Oops, my bad. But I would have not been available on a Sunday. Anywho if y'all start to do another one on any day other than Sunday somebody tag me and for sure my wife wants to ride this. Me: Well, depends on how quick it is, after my back going out I have lost all strength in my legs so about 6 miles is all I can do at present. I will be starting another thread, so as not to hijack here, about ways to get strength back.

The day turned out a lot hotter than I thought... and I regretted not getting some food at starbucks... about 15 minutes further down the road. Dammit! Lightheaded and trying to keep up with jsigone is no way to ride on the freeway.

Apparently you can if you use apple's ****ty browser, safari, but the only time I accidentally use that is when apple tricks me.

I'm in for a future ride! Pick a date and I will join. I enjoy the company.

Too bad I didn't know the Isotopes were going to stop in SC and go to Pizza Port....I might have joined. I got on train and headed home since I was by myself.

I did get to witness a homeless dude try to steal a Four Loco at 7-11 and then after the 7-11 clerk caught him and got it back...saw his naked booty as he walked away with his trousers falling off.

I would love to find ones that don't crumble!! If these don't...I'm going to have to find.

I got a snack and coffee at Starbucks and also munched most of my Clif bar along the way. Then I ate enough pizza that I didn't even bother with dinner that night.

Costco and maybe Trader Joes, but Vic found them at costco for sure.

I had a clif bar for breakfast (running late) and a clif bar in Laguna and that was it... just not quite enough I guess.

Crumbling is kept to a minimum by a thin layer of caramel between the two thin toasted waffles.

At home put them in the microwave for about 15 seconds and the caramel get a little gooey!

I'm bad on nutrition, on the ride I only had 4 bottles of water, 2 gels packs and 1 chocolate stinger waffle while on the bike. The pizza n beer stop was much heavier so I guess it made up there

You know, the longest ride I ever did (110 miles) featured a stop for pizza and beer at breakwater at the 90 mile mark, and then I got back on my bike, rode up the san luis rey trail and ended up at that Lawrence Welk resort at the 110 mile mark.

My legs felt like lead. Didn't help that the last 20 miles were mostly up hill, or that we chose the hilly way to get to Oceanside in the first place. Pizza and beer are not really good for further aerobic activity, IMO, but they do taste damn good.

Good thing you stopped at the Resort, there is a good 10-15min hill up from the resort that is in a funnel canyon next/under the freeway that gets VERY little airflow aka Hot as F. I used to do that route often to get home or Climb up Old Castle to Valley Center, and enjoy the 3mile downhill straight to my house.
