Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I went to A&S and learned that you're supposed to take the lane from passing semis.

Not passing ones, but I've certainly done that when I had to and, as far as I know, there was no objection. To everything there is a season, as the New Testament and the Byrds say. The pool noodle, however, just seems like an invitation to mischief.

We had a fantastic ride today. Some of the roads were a little wet from an overnight thunderstorm that came through, but the sky was clear and temps around 70, which was perfect. We had a relatively small group of 6 riders, but we mostly stayed together and had a blast. 100% fun.

I forgot to start my Strava at the start, so I turned it on at the rest stop. Does the first part of the ride count as road riding if it was not recorded on Strava? Or only if it's on a MUP??

I think it will be more effective if you put a sharpie permanent marker in the hole at the end. People won't want to get their pretty cars marked up.

Is that idea kickstarterworthy??

When I was in Palm Springs a few months ago I saw a dude with a beater MTB and a pool noodle. Guess it's a thing.

Speaking of passing distance... yesterday morning I was riding along my normal loop. A Jeep with what looked like a HS kid passed me with a couple inches to spare on this quiet neighborhood road. I gestured at her but whatever, it happens all the time.

The cool thing is... the car following that Jeep (a Subaru with bike-related bumper stickers and a roof rack) gave me a ton of room and once past me, they sped up and got right on the bumper of the jeep. They started honking and then pulled up alongside the Jeep at a stop sign, heard some yelling and saw some gesturing.

Not 100% sure it was on my behalf, but I'd like to think it was. Both cars were gone before I reached them to find out.

Maybe they just wanted to ask the kid what "boofing" means.

I also learned that you can spin up to 50mph in the little ring.

My first PT exercise turned out to be pretty tame. Imagine standing erect and you arch your shoulders backward . . . hold for 10 secs . . . repeat 10X. That's it for the day. At this rate by the time they're done I'll be too old to play any ball sports, even Vol might be able to beat me. Might.

I like the therapist though, thoroughly explains everything that's going on and why.

Me too. I was tired so I kept it down to 111.45 miles. It was 50 f at the end. I think that contributed a little to being tired too.
I'm staying off the bike for about another hour and a half.
