Some questions re: Wahoo Kickr and Garmin Edge 820

Just picked up a used Wahoo Kickr first gen. Got it going, having a hard time finding answers to these questions:

1. I set target power for ERG on my garmin edge, but for some reason the power I was putting out was ~10-30 watts higher than what I set the target to. Is that normal? I would expect if target power was set to 260, it would hover around 260, not 270-290. These weren't jumps, this was consistent.

2. Can I have my Garmin Edge read power from my powermeter instead of the kickr when using it paired with the kickr? So have it adjust the kickr resistance based on quarq power reading.

3. I haven't been able to get the bluetooth to work on my phone with it. It picks up the kickr, but there's no signal or at best 1 bar for a second. I'm trying the steps on the troubleshooting page, but haven't come up with success yet.

If you are controlling it with the Garmin’s ANT+, it’s the trainers power you will get (IME; same behavior for both Garmin and Wahoo computers). But if you have paired the trainer to your Quarq then it should be accurate (as the Quarq anyways).

I use an old PowerTap wheel for power input to my SNAP, and record the Powetap data to a Garmin/Wahoo via the power meter ANT+ profile. I control the SNAP using either a PC (usually Zwift) with ANT+ or my phone (if I want ERG) with Bluetooth.

And so specifically for 2), once you can run the Wahoo app on your phone, you should be able to put your Quarq’s ANT ID into the trainer, and it’ll match the resistance to the power. With that set I don’t bother with any of the Wahoo calibrations, and just do the usual power meter calibration.

after some research, apparently this isnt an option with android? That's annoying.

I’ve had my SNAP as long as that power matching option has been available (18mo?), and it’s crazy they wouldn’t have the Android app including that configuration item. It’s a set and forget type thing if you can find an iPad/iPhone you could borrow from a visitor.
