A hardtail MTB (50-559) with a deep wooooosh, then the sound of rubber folding over on itself over the brickwork used as pavement/sidewalk.

I feel quite satisfied!

Good sound.

Lad jumped off looked disgusted and walked on all in one motion.

A nice start to the midday coffee break.

It was more the chain of events.

Someone was riding on the pavement/sidewalk, which is poor form at a high rate of speed.

They sharply turned to avoid a ped.

The tyre must have caught the corner edge of a brick.

A loud deep woosh.

The lad hoped off, looked sad (oh no again!) and started walking without breaking a sweat.

Our cycle areas are a pain in the ass.

This crossing is dual walking/bike, so perhaps bicycles are allowed to ridden there.

It just leads to a bike rack area after a pinch point (on the brickwork) where homeless people sleep (next to the heating vents, where the motorcycle is parked) right next to the bike rack (a lot of food from the students.)

It's not a malicious commentary, just an interesting chain of events.

meanwhile, ppl posting "instant karma" incidents don't get flamed. as-in: some jerk just got what he had coming to him. but it's a pretty subjective & "in the moment" kind of thing. & we've all heard the expression "misery loves company". may not apply to everyone, but I get it

My first reaction to acidfast's comment was similar to the others, but then I realized, "Hey, isn't that the same satisfaction I get when I see a driver speeding and texting and then I catch up to him/her down the road and she/he has been pulled over by a cop?"

In any event, I think acidfast was describing the seamless fashion in which the cyclist got the flat, jumped off the bike, and continued walking without missing a note. Unless I am wrong, it's the rest of you guys who are stirring the pot.

Disregard for the approaching auto from the right. Didn't break cadence for a second. Would be the first to complain that "cagers" don't pay attention. Probably in full lycra and competing in the Tour d'Strava in Blommingdale, IN or a similar locale.

It looks like very poorly designed cycling infrastructure. 2 or 3 lanes of one way traffic. No bike lanes. Narrow shoulders. Curbs on both sides so there is no place for cars or bicycles to go. One might be tempted to ride in the loading lane, but it doesn't go through.

Even the fencing is designed so one loses about 2 feet of sidewalk. Or almost enough space that the road could be widened to the edge of the fence, and give room for a cycle lane.

I'm not sure I'd blame a person riding on the sidewalk.

Was the guy heading towards the bike rack you mentioned? Perhaps he was late, and had just about arrived at his destination.

I suppose one should just look down on anybody that commutes on anything less than a $10,000 racer.

It’s ok to feel that little chimpanzee thrill of seeing something bad happen to a person who you think deserves it. But you also know it’s cruel. It may have balanced his karma to get the flat but it doesn’t add to your balance to enjoy it.

I agree with all of that. We don't have a lot of space around these parts for cycling infrastructure.

Actually going by the rack and around the corner.

I commute on a piece of junk that I love and would never use a nice bike as it would be stolen immediately.

I'd assume that he had the right of way in that intersection. I generally find that it's a good idea to cycle with purpose or you will be more likely get bullied and have your right of way over-ridden (hopefully not literally) by some drivers, this may be why he didn't "break cadence." I'll bet he was keeping an eye on that car tho, to be sure it stopped. You seem like you are being a judgemental jerk, at least insofar as what you've posted in this thread.

I cycle in a very traffic intense area, see the photos I posted. This person in that video seems oblivious. At a minimum they should have stopped pedaling (freewheeled) and shifted hands/fingers to the front brake lever. This wouldn't have been noticeable to the driver (not giving way at all) but would position the rider with the ability to stop more rapidly. Neither of those occured.

Judgemental maybe, but it is a relatively dark evening and the cyclist is coming out of the tree cover, they should be somewhat more attentive.
