If by "lucky" you mean "not run over at 100 mph by some jackass with a suspended license" then yes, I agree.

Marked. I always like this ride for some reason.

I'm sitting this one out.

Be very careful at the bottom of Dillon Rd between Ave 44 and Love's Truck Stop/Chevron station. It's worse than ever!

man that road was straight up cyclocross rough earlier this yr!! Didn't know if the sounds my bike was making a crack or just the f'd up road!! Worse? should I just ride in the dirt shoulder?

I have a hotel 18mile from start, room is better size to leave family behind half the day. Guess I get some extra credit. But might be better than driving 4 hours to ride my bike 5 hours.

Yes at @TrojanHorse .....I was kinda glad I got a late start this yr. one chick latched on my wheel around mile 60 and kept up! Was thinking she is Way to fast of a rider to be that far back. She said the crash happened 20ft in front of her. She took a 2hr mental break down breather at the truck stop. She was happy I came along to tow her back 35 some miles, I kept my pace at 210watts, so 18- 20mph. She seemed fine to follow my drafting pace. She was leap frogging groups until I came along, what a way to do her first century ride!!

I pray for no stupid drivers on Feb 9th and 10th!!

20 feet... damn. I could see needing a two hour break. I'm a little impressed she finished!

Yeah, impressive indeed. I’m pretty sure I would not have finished after seeing that.

I'm going to explore there soon to see if they've done any improvements. I doubt it - it's been untouched for years.

@jsigone Dillon Rd remains as it was a year ago. It's been untouched for many years.

If I may suggest a workaround do the following:

Turn right at Ave 44 (still in rough shape but much better than Dillon) and continue to Golf Center Pkwy. Turn left on Golf Center Pkwy and continue to Hwy 111. Turn left at Hwy 111 (1 short block to Calhoun) and turn right at Calhoun. Continue on Calhoun to Ave 48 and turn right. That will put you back on the course.

Yes let's hope it's a nice day.

The recent rains (tomorrow too) have been good for the area. Flowers are everywhere now.

@jsigone, it's been blowing on and off all day today (right now it's not blowing but that can change quickly).

Forecast is for possible showers this evening and wind all day tomorrow.

The winds here carry chemicals from agriculture and the golf courses, pollen, sand and who knows what from the Salton Sea. I often just pass on riding even with moderate winds.

I thought the winds typically blow from the West? IE no salton sea but probably the rest of everything.

Pretty brisk air at the start. Was about 40* when I finally left the hotel at 6:40 from Palm Desert, 18miles from the start. Snow capped mts as I rode to downtown Palm Springs. By the time I got to the start they were doing waves for the 50mile route. I paid day of and lady told me I can't do the century and had to do the 50 at the same cost of $100 as the century Haha I didn't like lining to her face but what ever. Took the wrong color plate and handed them cash.

my late start means iI'll be riding solo and leap frogging slower riders. It held true all day and the winds were in every direction. Police force was very present this yr. every stop sign on Dillon Rd had a parked cop or chp. Same for in the farm side of the route. Well done and I felt bit saver. Bonus they closed the last 15 miles of Dillon rd from thru traffic. They were also filming a moving out there too so maybe that was planned timing.

Food at the sags was down right horrible. First sag had banana, oranges, dates, and a tray of bacon. 2nd sag was only bananas and oranges, 3rd added mini cliff bars in one flavor. Last sag was back to oranges and bananas. Guess the cop budget took out my m&m budget from this event.

I was nearly cramping between 2nd and 3rd sag, 70 some miles in from hotel. I was having knee issues on my right side, might have clipped in funny and guess I was pushing more on left to compensate and that was near cramping. I dropped my watts down 40ish and just tried to spin it out, by mile 95 my knee wasn't hurting anymore and no more cramping leg feel. The wind was tough on me all day and guess I was trying too hard to maintain speed. Riding solo sucks as there was no one to hide behind, everyone I passed was like standing still in all the wind. No one grabbed my wheel all day.

Overall a fun ride, family had fun in the desert while I was out playing. I need to get allot more miles in these legs if I have any hope to complete the double next month.

Doesn't look like you got wet? It rained like crazy here, no ride for me. Watched a ton of water polo though.

leaving the palms yesterday we drove into the storm. Shopped around at the Desert Outlet stores up there. Wide range of price range. One shop had cool wool Bennies for $143, the parka jacket i liked in there was discounted to $2748. I settled for 60% gear at The North Face store, got some nice tech hiking pants for cheap.

No rain for the ride but had the swirling winds to go with the storm. Temps stayed in 50s most the day, briefly got warmer after the 2nd sag at the truck stop. Most people were still bundled in many winter layers and heavy jackets, face mask. All of which seemed to big to pocket and non had bags on their bikes to carry extra thick gear. I used layers to pocket items. Good thing there wasn't any good food at the sags to pocket.

@jsigone I've spoken to several people who did the ride. They ALL mentioned the lack of decent food at the SAG stops. Plus no lunch provided.

he set 75k bail than got arraigned in April for murder/dui/ect and being held on 1M bail that he did not post.

https://www.bicycling.com/news/a1984...driver-murder/

the extra police force was real nice this yr, but its hard to complete a ride with just bananas and oranges.....I think I burned around 4500 cals that ride.
