1989 Fuji Absolute

I just purchased a 1989 Fuji Absolute. Everything on the bike seems to be original and in decent shape. Minor tear on the seat and the brakes seem to be needing some adjustment. The previous seems to have taken a can of black spray paint to the frame and the crank though. I want to go back to the seller, as he has many bikes, to see if I can return this bike for another as I seem to have maybe overpaid for this one. I paid $175 for it. Here some pictures and if anybody could give me some estimates on what you would think this bike would actually go for.

In the condition that it appears to be in, peanuts.

In mint condition it probably wouldn't be worth $175 except in the hottest markets.

Single speed fodder

I would say 175 is too much for that bike but good luck getting any money back, it looked like that when you agreed on a price. If I was the seller id tell you to get bent.

The seller is a nice guy. He sells a bunch of bikes from his backyard. I don't want a refund. I'm going to go back and tell him the bike just wasn't riding right and that I want to look a different bike. Hopefully I can get something a little better.

In that poor condition, maybe $50 at most. Hope the seller takes care of you.

Well, I got the guy to do a complete overhaul. He is fixing any mechanical issues I pointed out and lubing everything up. He is even going to strip that canned paint job. Not the best value I know. But I plan on slowly fixing and repainting the bike. No plans on reselling for a long while.

I hate to be the one to say it but personally I'd be wary of any repairs done by someone that would sell a bike in that condition in the first place, not to mention screwing you for $175.00 for it.

I hope it all turns out well for you.

Alright, well he did a nice job. He adjusted the brakes and deraileurs, lubed and cleaned all the components and he even recabled the whole bike. Everything on the bike looks great except the paint. Which is ok becuse I plan to repaint the frame. The long story short I helped him sell two overpriced mountain bikes while I was talking with him about the bike. Either way I am never going to get the $175 back but this should be the next best thing. Thats what I get for being a sucker. Funny cause I never usually buy something on the spot but I did like the bike. Thanks for the help guys

Don't sweat it! I've overpaid for a lot of different stuff over the years, from bicycles to houses, and everything in between.

Live and learn, we all do.

That said it could turn out to be a good learning experience for you to tear into.
