Giant dealer restocking 2016?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giant dealer restocking 2016?

It seems a bit early in the season here but was in one of the Chicago Giant dealers and they were out of stock on a Defy model in my size. When they checked they said that there was no way to order now from the distributor and that they might be out for the season but would get back to me. They did have some other models in stock in my size that were offered up of course. Is that the norm for stock to be out so early in the season and to not replenish until 2017 is out? My guess is more will appear but was curious.

It's pretty normal. 2017 models have already starting coming out and generally will be available around the TdF.

It's been a slow year, and the production numbers reflect that. Trek is the same way this year. Call around to other Giant dealers or start scouring some of the online bike shops.

+1. Specialized is completely sold out of most roubaix models and has no plan to make more this model year

It's pretty normal. 2017 models usually start rolling out in August or September. And manufacturers have really cut back production in recent years to avoid having leftover inventory at the end of the year. I know for Specialized, they used to have a ton of leftover inventory. To the point a dealer could order a brand new 4 year old bike.

I would assume the situation varies by size? i.e. Big sizes probably run out faster?

I was in a specialized dealer they are out of the Roubaix SL4 comp in 54 for the year in the black and red color that I was considering. Said that was it for the 2016 production. Surprised me as well

That's strange, I've got pre-orders for 2017 colors in my dealer portal right on several manufacturers with in-stock available at less than 6 weeks.

Two years ago I got this same realization. Except it was January and the bike I wanted had only been out about three months. Went and ordered it, paid in full and waited a week and no bike. After a month no bike. Two months no bike. It was sold out after three months of release. The shop kept saying hold on, just waiting for more to arrive. No dice. The bike was a Felt F4 with the newly released 6800. I was offered an upgrade to the next bike for the same money. Turned out the next model was the F2 with 6870. I would never have spent the coin on a bike like this but it was an offer I could not refuse. I usually have really bad luck but it worked out for me this time.

Just put our 3rd different 2017 Giant model on the sales floor this weekend. The TCR with disc brakes. We'll put another two on the floor by the end of June.

Looks like a new Shimano brifter. Are they labelled as part of a group. i.e Ultegra, or just a number eg 785, like they have been?

They're the new 105-equivalent hyrdro levers. But yeah, still branding them ST-RS505 officially.

Hey softreset

Is this true? 2017 Giant Defy Sneak-Peek | Tramps and Steeds

Will we see a through axle flat mount Defy in 2017?

Lame. Disc brakes creeping up from the Defy line now into the TCRs.

Pretty sure every major brand has discs as an option on their race bikes now. Can't stop progress

Oh, I know. Just prefer the look of rim brakes.

Dunno, just the TCRs are starting to trickle through for 2017. The media embargo was just released a few days ago. I suspect we'll see Defy's soon though and it'll be all over the 'net.

Looks like the TCR has flat mounts and through axle, right? If TCR does I would imagine Defy would

It does. I image the Defy would as well, I'd just rather not speculate until I know.

Do you think this is legit? https://trampsandsteeds.com/giant-defy-2017/

Tramps and Steeds

Do you really think the Giant Defy will have through axles and flat mounts as this video eludes to?
