Computer for a cycling nerd.

I'll be turning 76 soon, don't own a smart phone, have no desire for a computer that does smart phone stuff like mapping, emails, power meter data, etc. I want a computer that does distance, speed, average speed, odometer, clock, timer, cadence, and heart rate. I currently have a wireless Cateye Strada which is perfect for my needs if the &$#*+ heart rate monitor would work consistently. I've tried everything Cateye America has suggested plus tips from forum members to no avail. They even sent me a new sensor. No better. I've decided the heart rate monitor is just plain junk. The computer is four years old. I've heard that this heart rate monitor problem is not unique to me. I'm wondering if a newer version would be better. Maybe a different computer altogether. Suggestions?

I use a Cateye Strada Cadence for most everything, and a Garmin 800 for long rides where I need directions and, the part that's relevant, for the heart rate monitor -- although I use a Wahoo chest strap (bought the Garmin before Wahoo did mapping). You could probably pick up a cheap used Garmin with Ant+ if you really need the HRM.
