Your Weekend/Week Ride Reports -- Jan 19/20

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tell us all about the cycling (or other sports) you've done this week or over the weekend. Is it nice where you are? Are you able to ride outside? Are you Zwifting?

I usually get out virtually every day. However I fed too many kids to lions in a former lifetime and am spending the entire weekend attending all day meetings in Minneapolis.

I'm normally all about the outdoors, but that isn't feasible today. The hotel has those Peloton trainers -- this is my first experience with them. Not bad -- better and more fun than I was expecting

Fri; TGIF ride on Zwift. good times as always chattin with the guys.

Sat: 10mi mountain bike ride before the snow came. did really well in some rocky stuff that i usually have issues with. Then crashed on a fire road getting tangled with my friend's handlebar DOH . bruised shoulder but i'll live. Shoveled driveway at midnight to get some of it off before the snow changed to rain

Sun: tour de zwift up the Alpe. Finally got my Tron bike and a bonus PR up the hill. also did a bit of shoveling and snowblowing that the gf kindly left for me to do after she had enough

30 miles Friday, taking advantage of the uncommonly warm (70F) and commonly windy weather. Did some 6 mile circuit repeats, half slogging uphill into the 20-30 mph wind for exercise, half with the tailwind to set some new PRs. Can't say it was fun but I needed it.

Too cold and windy the rest of the weekend. Just a little leg stretching on the indoor trainer. And walking a couple of miles.

19 miles Sunday, with two little hills for 627'. I thought the weather was nice; not warm (10F) but the sun makes a huge difference!

Most of the route was packed snow, with some ruts/dirt - more like bad gravel. But if it's on a road, it's still road cycling, right?

Saturday nice weather. Did the S. Tampa ride, but in reverse, Davis Is. then Picnic Is. This is parade season in Tampa and they had one of the major roads closed off. It didn't start until later, so I got to ride on a traffic free street for awhile. There were many vendors and police setting up the event I had to dodge around. 40 miles total. Sunday the weather turned grey, cool and windy. I thought I was going to have to skip riding, but the rain stopped early enough. It was really windy though. Maybe 15 - 20 mph with gust in the 30's. The ride out was into the wind and I was doing well to keep it at 15 -16 mph. On the way home with the tailwind it was a blast. Soft pedaling at 20 -25 mph. About 43 miles.
