I did 7 miles around the neighborhood this morning, as well. It’s going to be a triple digit day, and I wanted to do something before the heat hit.

As someone very new to cycling, I’ve been building up by rising 5 miles or so each day around the neighborhood. It’s been a really good way to get started. Looking forward to being able to make the king rides someday. For now, just enjoying the cycling.

22 miles today. First good ride in a few weeks. Not much photogenic scenery around here. Plus, my phone camera sucks. Riding with power and HR measures is interesting.

An accidental 40-miler (39.8 actually). I got back to the car at about 30 and decided to toodle around the near-by development I'd been through part of. It was bigger than I thought. Every other road was a cul-de-sac and the others dumped me out on the far side.

This past Wed-Thurs, we took our tandem to a Cardinal Greenway trailhead about 25 miles south of Muncie, IN. Rode to Muncie, explored Ball State University campus and surrounding area, where stoker went to school, then spent the night in motel and rode back to our car on Thursday. But, very heavy heavy rain overnight, and we found that the White River Trail leading to the Cardinal Greenway had multiple sections with large puddles and sections underwater. No problem with roadway nearby. No water problems on the Greenway, as it is a rail trail and generally elevated a bit. First overnight bike trip in a long time.

82 miles with a few friends with 4000’ of hills on roads above Greensboro, NC. Temperatures got into the 90s by the end. One fellas RD wound up in his rear wheel ruining his frame 10 miles into the ride. He had to call for a ride. Hopefully the frame will be replaced under warranty**********

A big-for-me day yesterday, starting with a 6-mile library loop (picked up: Ben Bova, New Earth), then after dark carrying a large rock around the neighborhood for weight-bearing activity and upper body (looks unusual, works great, feels great, and helps maintain aerobic capacity since I live on hills), then riding for 2h22m overnight straight north and returning. That way lies the state line and I'm working on getting there. Today I feel used.

10 miles on the quiet local rural gravel roads with the new Giant fat tired carbon belt e-assist. Started out with the sun setting because biking any earlier meant enduring 90 degrees with a humidity of 95%. Also known as "unmitigated torture".

Saw
8 deer grazing in the fields enroute
3 spotted fawns together in a family group who startled and ran into the woods at my approach (mom absent elsewhere)
2 very young red fox cubs just chilling out in the middle of the gravel road who watched me for a moment then sauntered together into the underbrush before I could get my phone out of my pocket for a photo (drat - would have made a great shot because those two were so cute)
1 car
300 (or so) fireflies as dusk drew on.

A very peaceful relaxing ride.

Midweek temps are due to rise close to the 3 digit mark. Humidity will be killing. I still hope to increase my miles this week on the gravel roads, but we'll see what reality brings to those plans.

Friday: 37 flat miles on M-W-F club repeating ride. Tailwind on the ride out and, of course semi-headwinds on the way back but still averaged faster than my norm.
Saturday: Helped with our club's activities at the IndyCrit in downtown Indy. Rode 3.5 miles at 6.2mph average on the Family Fun Ride with 100+ folks including large numbers of kids on kid bikes. We had bike police help us get across all the intersections, which made things go much smoother than they could have.
Today: 23 miles on the ti 'bent, riding with spouse on her e-assist Trek. Much fun.

31 + a fraction miles. The last 3 rides had 30 as a goal. The 1st 2 got cut due to wind and wanting to get home without needing to collapse. This morning I felt no energy as I started out and doubted I would do 20, but at 11.5 miles, 30 seemed eminently doable. That got me to a magnificent vista over Lake Michigan a little South of Ft. Sheridan - a vista which is entirely unexpected the first time one sees it.

I was aiming for 76 KM the week of the 23rd (birthday ride), and I doubt I'll make that date, but cracking the 30 mile barrier gives me hope I'll get there some time this Summer.

Beautiful weather today with light winds here in Chicago....

I biked 19 miles today. The day ended up warm so was a good ride. I’m riding every other day as part of my weight loss program. Started in January and have dropped from 222 pounds to 179 and heading for 160 or so. But, I sure am slow. On my rides, that is...

34 miles this morning on a club M-W-F ride with about a dozen other riders, men and women, most of whom have age-related non-working syndrome.

Had time for about 7.5 miles this morning before starting work. Glad I did it early. It got hot early today. The ride felt good and was a great way to start the day. Later in the day I raised my treadmill desk and walked for a while. Just not the same LOL. But, it helps keep me active during what would otherwise be a sit-on-my-butt-all-day job.

Up in the hills playing and shredding this morning. It was nice, in the 70's.

Just back from 1h47m, my last ride for a week or two. I'm having surgery in about three hours -- very minor, just a skin thing being removed, but they're putting me under so I don't wiggle around because of where it is. They said don't eat or drink anything after midnight, but they didn't say don't ride.

ETA: Verdict handed down, sentenced to ten days no sweating. (For the incision to heal and maybe also so I don't prematurely dissolve the dissolving stitches?) Gonna be tough (but many others have endured tougher).

22 miles this morning with "speed intervals" in power zone 3. Five sets of roughly three minutes each. Hill repeats tomorrow after work, weather permitting.

15 miles on the gravel roads this morning - the bike won the toss of the coin of "do I ride the horse or bike". At least I don't have to hose off a sweaty bike afterwards. Just myself. Temps in the mid 80s when I started out, zero breezes, humidity also high in the 80s. Gravel riding is necessarily slower than road riding, but shade is generally more abundant and traffic is nill so I was determined to get in more than 10 miles. Saw along the way: 1 truck, 1 car, and one massive farm tractor taking up the entire road, toting 3 round bales as if they didn't weigh 1,000 lbs each. By the time I was heading back up the driveway, hot and sweaty and happy, the temps were in the 90s and the humidity ramped up as well.

My views enroute.

Out this morning for a modest ten mile ride with spouse/stoker on single bikes. Rode though several neighborhoods we don’t normally frequent. No hills.

26+ miles starting at 11 AM. After 3 straight rides for which Ihad no energy, I felt great this AM. I felt great for about 22 miles and then had to limp home. Weather Underground said the temp was 90 degrees F which felt like 100. For the first 22 miles, it was a beautiful day and a fun ride.

13 lucky miles this afternoon in almost-90F heat. Yikes! But better than 20F. Supposed to be well into the 90's next 2-3 days.

20 miles yesterday to advise a co worker on a bike restoration, and the same, in the opposite direction today, to check out a falafel restaurant.

Finally finished haying and back on the bike for the first time in 10 days. Just 20 miles with a fair bit of climbing on some quiet back roads.

Headed out this morning at 6:30 to beat the sun and temp getting high. It was 77 deg. F and high humidity. Also wanted to get my ride in before the beach traffic got real heavy. Put in 32 miles, stopped and got a couple of pastries, and was home around 8:30. It is noon now with the temp closing in on 90.

I ride both road bikes and trikes but today, I decided to take the trike for a leisurely 40 miler in the 90º heat.
