Hello all, first post here, and building my first bike... light singlespeed commuter bike. I fixed up an old '87 Renault Trek a few years back but other than that I'm a newb to building. Do you see any glaring incompatibilities with the following? Anything missing (besides tires/tubes, bar tape, brakes, and chain)?

FRAME: Eighthinch Scrambler Frame
WHEELSET: Deep V 700c, Black DT 2.0 and Origin8 TH50 and TH52 hubs
CRANK: SRAM GXP 165mm Omnium
FREEWHEEL: Shimano SF-1200 Single Speed (16Tx1/8")
STEM: Truvativ T20 Stylo Stem
HANDLEBAR: Profile Design T2 Wing
PEDALS: Avenir Ultralight Pedals with Toe Clips
SADDLE: Selle Royal Lookin Sport

Everything looks fine here, but Omniums might be overkill. S300's are great and use the same gxp system (and can be had for about $100). Use the extra you would've spent there and get decent pedals instead. Avenir makes a lot of crap.

If you're going with traditional clips/straps, check out mks' selection of pedals. One of our mods, Scrod, sells a lot of their products through his store, Retrogression. Really good prices - check them out.

Brakes?

^^ Yeah, if you're running a freewheel, you need brakes. Otherwise, you'll need a cog and a lockring.

One big thing you're overlooking from a compatibility standpoint is the seatpost (and possibly seatpost clamp) diameter. I don't know what this frame is, but poke around. For some re:tarded reason, seatposts are sized a 100 micron level.

E: how about a headset?

Defiantly don't get the Omniums, they are renowned for having chainstay clearance issues & when I put together my scrambler I had a bit of a tricky time getting my sugino crank/bb to clear the chainstay.

Looking into the S300 crank. The freewheel I had looked at was for a 1/8th inch so will have to get the 3/32 version, the Shimano MX30 maybe.

Not really sure about the saddle/clamp. I know nothing about this at all. Guess I'll just hope it fits? Do I need to buy a seat clamp separately?

As for the headset, I think the Scrambler comes with fork and headset.

Width of cog/chainring don't really matter if you buy a 1/8 inch chain. If you bought the scrambler from wheel & sprocket it should come with seatpost & collar. Otherwise it requires a 30.0mm collar, the Salsa ones are very nice. As for saddle, most bike stores have used or take off saddles for cheap try out a few until you find the right shape for your butt.

I have omniums on my scrambler with no problems dude I also have them on my spicer

This is good to hear. Did you have to use a spacer or anything like that when building? Is it a Scrambler V3 or an older one?

scrambler does indeed come with a headset, but if youve got the money for it id say get a sealed bearing option like FSA Orbit-X, also sold at RG
IIRC the seatpost dia. is 27.2, but it comes with a post as well so you dont have to worry about that

omniums would definitely be overkill with the frame unless theyre being reused from an old build, dont need such a stiff crankset for such a flexy frame

V3 no spacers but for your build I would go with some cheaper good quality cranks unless you plan on using em later when you upgrade
