Ditch the multivitamins. The recent reviews of the data seem to suggest that those taking supplements actually have shorter lives than those who don't.

I'm doing all that. I even take the multivitamins since I don't eat many vegetables.

Japanese have the lowest mortality due to heart problems in the world so it is likely that a diet high in omega 3 fatty acids, as from fish, would account for that. Also with very low mortality rates are the French, even with heavy sauces. Evidently, foie gra has unsuspected rejuvenating properties.

My wife was marveling how the body tells you to begin to eat healthy and exercise more after 50 (weight gain, muscle loss, irregularity, etc.)
I simply thought it unfortunate.
my cardiologist remarked that eating healthier does not make you live longer, it just seems longer...

Peter Mayle, who has written several books about Provence, where he has lived for years, believes the long lives people have in that region are due to an unhurried life style, obsessive insistence of fresh ingredients of their food (this means locally grown) and of course, the restorative effects of a bottle of red wine at the mid-day meal should not be underestimated.

I am so screwed...
Just finished lunch 10 minutes ago. Pulled pork sandwich with slaw on top (of course!) I got a jumbo. Washed it down with a REAL Coke, too.
But I've been a good boy this week...

RideMyWheel it has been good having you here on the forum. Know I will be thinking of you this evening as I hoist my Cuba Libre.
Yeah, Barrettsvc, those Italians also know how to live. Actually, old Rome, I believe, is where France first learned about this.

Ah, the wonderful fifties, when you could make any baseless claim there was about almost anything. Did you know that more doctors smoke Camels than any other brand?

And, hey! I've lost almost 3 inches off my waistline since May! Only eight pounds, though. My massive legs (a.k.a. The Pistons) probably gained five pounds each.

I'd be a vegetable. I love broccoli and brussels sprouts. I know where to get the best veggies in town.
I have not had any meat (yes, that means no chicken, no pork, no beef, no fish... funny how folks say "does that mean...") in over 5 years. Yet I am told I have to eat more fruit and veggies. How exactly does that work?
I guess I have to stop stir frying my veggies in a tablespoon of oil and just steam everything now.

I take a sublingual B12 tablet every day, as well as occasional zinc, lutein, C, and E supplements.
My wife and I have been mostly vegetarian for more than 40 years. At home we avoid white sugar, white flour, etc., and I completely avoid soda pop and donuts. Breakfast is a grapefruit, one or two other pieces of fruit, lentil sprouts and/or tofu, and steel cut oats topped with raw wheat germ and ground flax seed -- I get my variety at other meals, where common protein sources include garbanzos and other legumes. At "Beatles Age" ("will you still feed me, when I'm 64"), my wife and I seem to be doing well.
