Hooray, I can join y'all! Just got this bad boy in the mail today, Pake (I'm assuming Rum Runner, although it is awful light...but I'm used to a 2040 hi-ten classic Motobecane Super Mirage 12 Speed). I need to get a front brake for it, and as someone else in the thread said, get the wheels trued and have it gone over...but I'm super thrilled, especially since I got it for $231 shipped!

+1. Spectacular frame, and overall very nice but not enough to regret getting the Mondial

That is a real beauty Scrodzilla...I am surprised to find that I like the unusal treatment of black bits on a retro frame.
I ordinarily tend to agree with TejanoTrackie's point favoring 1" threaded forks/quills (after all, that is what I ride) for frames like yours but...
It's been a trend for several years among some "higher-end" makers - Pinarello, and Colnago, for example, make(made?) chrome lugged track(tarck?) bikes with 1 1/8" threadless forks. I actually can see the point - it opens up such bikes to the much larger assortment of modern bars/stems as well as stronger/stiffer 31.8mm set-ups.
Just out of curiosity...I know that despite being from Italian marques, the bikes I mentioned were not made there. I also am aware that in times past despite being French co, at least some Look steel frames were actually made in Italy - what's the county of origin story on that new frame?
Have fun with yours...

At first I was like , but then I looked closer, and I was like , but now I'm like ....
The threadless is def weird on it to me, but its not too distracting or whatever, especially if you could find a stem that was "skinnier" ... And no bloated down tube? Awesome.
Those lugs kick ass.

That Look is tits, of course!
I do find the humor in the fact that we like it because it looks like old track bikes which is why new companies are making bikes look old because people on forums like vintage track bikes which is why we like it which is why companies ....

Your cog is slipping.
For some reason Look's site (as well as various other sources on the interwebz) shows the prototype, which had two sets of bottle bosses.

It's because it's made for little French girls.

I may get flamed for the changes, but these risers make this bike so much more fun and ridable. I've been against risers for a long time, but now that I have had them on for a few weeks I am into it. Have the drops on another stem for quick swap when tracking (have yet to ride this bike at the track). Also finally found a Supercorsa saddle I didn't have to sell my cats for.

Dialing in fit this week before sending it back for paint. Handbuilt in Brooklyn by a homie starting out as a full-time framebuilder.
Tubing is a mix of True Temper S3 and Columbus Life, with Spirit chainstays. Geo leans more towards track, but since most 50-52cm track frames have crazy toe overlap, I asked for minimal overlap when it came to the front end and bottle bosses because commute. Dude threw in internal brake cable routing for winter singlespeeding. So far, it rips. I really want to throw a clearcoat over that raw steel but we got a deal on the upcoming paint job. Thinking of BMW M stripes.
'Arawak' is the name he's settled on for his frames, a nod to his Taino ancestry.

Take it to the next level of comfort and find a bar that allows your wrists to angle down on the outside. The difference in wrist, shoulder, and elbow comfort is light years beyond the out/up angle. It's more natural to the way your joints are built, and IMO you feel like you have much better control of the bike.

I think it'd look better with "townie" type bars on it, but I still like it. Get some old Schwinn/Hunt Wilde grips....

Back when shiny steel was shiny:
Same here. There used to be a tumblr called "Death to Drop Bars", just driveside shots of anything non-drop. IIRC there weren't a lot of risers as much as bars like Priest, Porteur, Jitensha, etc. I have some Jitenshas that I might throw on my new build once it's painted.

Yep, exactly. I love those grips. Whenever I see an old beater, if i don't want the frame, I grab the grips anyway. They are produced in China now a days, so it's nice to have the old ones if ya come across them. I think some mustache townie bars and schwinn grips would look sweet on that thing...
