Schwinn Tempo
Hi,
So I’ve been looking for a vintage Schwinn cromo bike for a while. 54cm. I found this one (please see below link) on the gigantic auction site and was wondering what you think of the value and condition.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1980s-Schwi...-/254337010051
My concerns are:
- does it really look like a 54cm? It looks a little bigger to me for some reason, I don’t know why.
- rust (on stainless steel?)
- potato quality (and too few) pics
- value? Seems high even for my NY/NJ area
Finally, I suppose I’m getting cranky in my old age but they couldn’t bother to even wash the bike...and at this price? Lol 😂 come on!
I’d greatly appreciate any advice you may provide. Thank you!

The Tempos are nice, but $150 is more like it. $400 can get you a few really nice bikes, especially since it's more of a buyer's market right now. Unfortunately, too many sellers in NY & NJ haven't gotten the message. That Tempo, BTW, is in Tennessee. Might be a hotter market there. Craigslist has mostly overpriced stuff in the NY area that keeps getting eternally reposted. Deals do pop up, especially if you try other CL areas that you are willing go travel to, or are going to be visiting. Facebook Marketplace seems to be have better deals right now. You may have to give it a little time, but it's worth it.

Considering the seller will spend $100 on shipping it seems a bit more realistic but I agree still seems over priced. The bike isn’t pristine enough to demand such a premium
i think looks closer to a 56

Not a 54cm. IN 1987, Tempo's came in 21, 23 and 25 inch sizes ( and I think one size smaller and one larger as well, but those are super rare). This appears to be a 23.
And overpriced, although seller is entertaining offers. It is completely original and very little used. Nice bike.
You may want tp look for an 88 or 89, both of which came in 22 inch sizes, closer to the 54 you are looking for. Plus the 89 came with 105 7 speed, still 1050/51 series, a very nice group.

Nice bike. However, when I see a dirty bike I assume that all the bearings need overhaul and cables need replacing. Free shipping actual cost has been factored into that price. He's accepting offers. Figure out what it is worth to you and offer that.

Oof not at $400 shipped! Checkout the classic and vintage for sale section here to see what $400 shipped can get you!
I'd say ~$250 shipped would be reasonable. Plus you better communicate and make sure the guy packages the bike correctly!

Thanks for merging threads Cb and to everyone for their advice.
I see now the shipping is included (and that searching for bikes around 2AM plays tricks on the eyes 😉 lol).
Could be an ok deal depending on negotiations, I suppose. However it’s too big for me so I’m passing. The search continues!
Thanks!
