Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek Madone 2.1 alum/ w105 price and opinions.

I wasn't really looking to buy another bike but I found a good deal and an eager seller on this 2.1 madone. I figure it would be a good addition as a winter bike and n+1. It is my size and the seller claims to be the original owner and the bike to be spotless.

How much should I offer ad does anybody have any feedback on the aluminum frame madone? I test rode my buddy's 3 series carbon and another 5 series and they were fine bikes. The 3 series carbon seemed a bit harsh that's why I'm asking about the aluminum version.
Also what's the fair price for such a bike?

I was considering buying this bike new from my local bike shop and I was going to pay $1199 + taxes. I was obviously going to get the lifetime frame warranty which I don't know whether it's transferable or not, a proper fitting and lifetime "tuneups" or adjustments, what have you. So for me to buy this bike used it has to have a substantial discount. Just food for thought.

I was also considering buying this bike new a few weeks ago. I ended up spending more and getting the better frame with Tiagra components in the Emonda S4

That's funny. They didn't have the Madone 2.1 in black for my size so they tried to sell me the Emonda S4, I test rode it and it's a very fine bike (much better than the Madone 2.1 IMO) but I wanted 105 components at the very least. Riding the S4 also made me get a short and shallow handlebar for my bike which really improved my experience.

I have a 2011 2.1 with 105 components. Just watching ebay and CL, these seem to resale in the $650 range.
