Weird things people do while cycling

I live in a bike-dense place. I also live in a place that embraces weirdness. So I see weirdness on bikes.

- talking on cell phones
- smoking
- whatever

I even saw a guy shouting at the top of his lungs at, ostensibly, his wife.

Today, for the first time, I saw a guy flossing his teeth with one of those little slingshot flossed things.

What have you seen?

I've seen many riders texting, or emailing.

I used to see a guy who was always singing.

My favorite is the med students who ride no-hands the wrong way up a busy two-lane one way street while texting. Clearly didn't do their ER rotation yet.

I should get back into singing while riding. It's fun. A friend of mine sings instead of using a bell.

i sometimes sing (not loudly) for some reason it seems to help on the hills. counter-intuitive... but maybe it helps me breathe properly or just gets me fired up and in the mood.

I get a kick out of the ones that I see trying to track down the illusive noise from the bike. They will scrunch down close to the frame and then pop up with" did you hear it, just now " ?

Apparently, saying 'hi' to fellow riders is weird because very few say "hi" back to me. Whats up with that?

Sometimes I'll text while on brevets -- doesn't seem like that big of a deal next to eating food out of my handlebar bag, taking a drink, or reapplying sunscreen.

I try not to distract myself too much while in town, though.

lol, you would have the time of your life coming to The Netherlands... I must admit I do or have done all the things listed above (except flossing), and been known to have been eating whilst in the saddle, or even reading the last couple of pages of Hamlet for an english test in high school.

A tandem couple touching one another excessively while riding was the strangest I've seen.

It's weird when you say "hi" to a cyclist and they just look at you like you have 3 heads.
It's even weirder to say "on your left" three times while passing a cyclist, runner, or walker on the bike path and they can't hear you because of ear buds.

I have had both of these happen on the bike path. When you approach from behind, they will get startled when you finally get their attention, like they were completely unaware that someone else might be using the path.

I have seen people...

...texting (of course...almost seems normal now!)

...eating (and not just a gel or sport beans!)

...holding hands with another rider (that was quite interesting to watch from behind!)

...oh...almost forgot this one...smoking a HUGE cigar

...and...my favorite...holding the leash of their dog! Yes, the dog was doing all it could do to keep up!

As for talking to people...I will always say hello back...and...I often try to say hi or at least nod when I encounter another cyclist...

Ear buds...had all those experiences too...

Finally...I ride a lot on rail-trails and greenways...I have LOTS of "Tales from the Trails"...from a woman stripping to a guy punching another guy...the human race is (1) amazing and (2) disturbed!

UGH. I really hate those things. What have I seen? After use, inconsiderate slobs toss them on the ground. I see them frequently.

Other cyclists have seen me with my dog while I was cycling. This is how we handled the ride.

One of the disturbing indicators is that these behaviors are repeated in the way they drive cars, shopping carts, walk in crowded areas and vote.
