I might have one too many bikes and these two are kinda-sorta similar. I need to get back on the IM this week but the Tempo (which is new to me) has been sweet.

Pedal to the medal
Ummm.... do you know if the geometeries are the same? Does the Tempo have eyelets (and does that matter to you)? Going on paintjob alone, I'd go with the IM.

Still learning
Your sig says you have 3 Ironman. I'd make room for the Tempo.

I'm confused by some of your terms -- "or" ... "too many bikes" .... I think what you meant to ask is "How do I fit more bikes into the space I have available?"
Otherwise, it would depend on which one I enjoyed riding more. If I really couldn't discern a significant difference in the ride I'd choose based on color. Is your Ironman yellow or green? If green, I'd definitely keep the Tempo. The fact that your wife and son have Ironmen could tip the scales one way or the other depending on how you and your family feel about homogeneity. My family values diversity so they'd be put off if I kept the bike to be like them. Other people I know like to have matching bikes.

The Ironman is a 60(24") and the the Tempo is a 58(23"). The top tubes differ by 0.5 cm by my meter stick.

Problem solved. YOU only have one Iron Man. No reason why you can’t keep it and the Tempo.

I'll go with the thoughts expressed by @Andy_K, what are you trying to say here? Heresy in the highest form is being promulgated
If you decide to let the Tempo go, please put it up here, in the FS sub-forum. Its my size!!!!!!

After I get the bars/stem/saddle worked out on the Tempo, I should take them to the local loop and ride them back to back and back again with the same wheels/tires.
I was hoping that someone who had extensive experience riding each would point out that as recreational racers, one is clearly a finer go fast bike, or that they behave in an identical manner and it makes no difference so pick a color.

I would keep the Tempo. I don't think i am secure enough in my masculinity to ride that Miami vice ironman. Lol
I actually had a iron man just like that once. My wife told me she would not ride with me if I was riding it.

Wow! Those are some seriously 80's paint jobs. It looks like the Centurion has Bio-Pace rings and the Tempo does not. That would solve it for me, but I guess you can swap those. I think you're going to have to choose based on color.

If these are duplicates, I may want to save some good will and make room for a 6th bike that fills a void. Or this will blow over, my son will move out and take his two bikes, and the garage will look like I'm a reasonable man.

I have had several of both and I am very tired of the pink Ironman's. I like the Tempo's better. I had four of those Pink Ironman's.
They ride the same for my style riding, lazy, slow.

I'm not familiar with this "too many bikes" thing, and would keep both if at all possible... If one just HAD to go though, I'd keep the Ironman no question. I will say as a total Centurion nut, I may be a bit biased.

Learn storage tricks so you can fit more bikes in the same space!
OK, serious now, if I was going to keep one, it would be the Tempo. Myself, I would sell both, and use the proceeds to move up a notch or two to either a Circuit or a Prologue (Prologue is my favorite of that era racing bike).
I plan to do a face-off later this year of my several duplicate style bikes, which tourer should I keep, which racing bike should I keep, etc. I used to do better at not having so much overlap. Its gotten a little out of control lately.....

As someone who has owned an 88 Tempo and currently run an 86 Ironman I would say I'm glad I don't have to decide!
BTW, the Tempo left because I have the 87 Super Sport.

Based on color alone the Iron Man wins hands down, however the Italian colors on the Tempo is alluring, albeit odd on an American brand.
