Welcome to the forums. Most manufacturers do not imbed model codes into the serial number. Your serial number number is consistent with that used by Kawamura, a known Nishiki source. Assuming it is a Nishiki, the only things the serial number tells you is that it is was manufactured by Kawamura during 1978, that it's a USA market model and that's it not one of the bottom of the line models, as Giant was manufacturing these during this period. However, it could also be Fuji, Maruishi or Tsunsoda manufactured frame. You'll need to post pictures for a positive identification. Ignore the 10 post warning. While the pictures will not appear in the thread, they will be deposited in a gallery album where members can view them.

Hello 2112Artimus,

if the serial number is from a Japanese manufacturer it is most likely Tsunoda. If Tsunoda the frame was probably manufactured in 1980.

It could be a Nishiki serial number.

The format of the serial number is incorrect for Fuji.

The format is correct for Maruishi, but I have never seen a Maruishi serial number that starts with "K".

Edit: looked at the pictures. OP's album https://www.bikeforums.net/g/user/505647.

A Kawamura serial number for year of manufacture 1978. Replacement fork and most components. Based on the head tube lugs the frame could be the Rally model.
