Brake Pads
What is the difference or what is better, the one piece brake pads like Kool Stops Eagle 2 or the cartridge refillable type?? I'm looking at Tektro's Oryx cantilevers and I've seen them with both.

Kool Stop Salmon-colored pads use a special rubber compound that gives better stopping power. Black-rubber pads work fine too, just not quite so well.

Kool Stops are much 'kinder' to your rim braking surface. I'll never replace with Shimano pads again (but I still have a few on some of my other bikes that I will use until I see a problem). Just curious.......is Jagwire the same as Shimano? I heard that somewhere but I'm not sure.

I'm sure the Kool Stop pads of the same color are the same composition no matter what format they come in so either the shoes or cartridge refills will work the same.
Jagwire is a Taiwanese company. They may subcontract some components for Shimano.

Cartridge holders are the way to go for rim brakes. I run soft\wet compound front and black rear as I just drag the rear lightly\more often. Jagwire Tri-zone are probably the best pads made, better than red kools.
Mind you, my Jag wet block pads lasted a really long time. Slightly more carbon than kool reds, less than black.

I prefer the cartridge pads because it's usually cheaper to replace just the pad.. I'm using Kool-Stop dual-compund salmon/black cartridge pads.
