Monster Cross
These are being touted as the new trend in the SS Cyclocross world. I dig it all except for the stem and I think V brakes would be a lighter and just as powerful choice here. Cool bike though. Frame and fork are $399.

Not sure how I feel about that stem, but definetly agree with v brakes. I wish there was a wider selection for 29er completes that run vbrakes insteady of crappy cable pull discs.

There's some distortion with the other bike in the background. From what I can tell, that stem is about, say, +85 degrees, right?

Silly frame design for a dropbar mtb. A sloped toptube with a longer headtube would allow for a more normal stem. Doesn't look at all like a crossbike with those tires either.
And Mostercross bikes, s/s or not are definitly not a new trend.

This is the first year that disk brakes are legal for santioned cross races.
And they are much more powerful, and usuefull in all weather conditions than V brakes.

I'd take a crappy cable pull disc over v-brakes any day of the week. Every try riding in thick mud?

I know, I ride drop bar mtbs. And there is no reason to not have a longer head tube. Look at the modern moster cross bikes and drop bar 29ers out there. Lots of sloping top tubes and long steerer tubes. That voodoo is a poorly designed bike.

Not digging the stem one bit. I'm sure it is functional, but I'd prefer a longer head tube instead.

I don't understand why you would jack both the handlebars and the seat up so high. It just looks to my eye about three sizes too small for whoever is riding it.

There's a small, vocal minority of dedicated monstercross guys that absolutely hate sloping top tubes. So Voodoo catered to them and built a level-top bike. That monstrosity of design is the result.

Dirt drops are meant to be riden in the drops the whole time. The drops are set where a flat bat would be, so the stem on this bike needs to be high to get the proper riding position.

Truth. Designing/fitting a frame for off-road drops can be very difficult and lead to some funky looking setups. But when you get it right, it's wicked nice!
