Still a relative cycling n00b here... thanks for the good advises and I will test out. I have actually been trying to find the most comfortable seat position the last few days. This SMP seat has a hard slope in the front and still trying to figure out it's ideal positioning for me. It's still more comfortable than my old seat. I will try leveling it out and see if it helps any.

Yesterday, I searched for an annoying clicking sound coming from the crank area (has been bothering me for some rides already).

1) Cleaned and lubed the chain.
2) Tried swapping pedals for another pair.
3) Removed the crank and the bottom bracket (BB4500 Tiagra) to find out that the drive side bearings were pretty rough. Replaced it with what was available at the nearby lbs (BB52 Deore). Strangely replacing a ROAD marked part with a MOUNTAIN marked part has worked. The external bearing parts that sit on the outside of the BB shell are actually thinner by a couple mm for Deore, so I thought my Tiagra crank axle would protrude a bit too much and would result in a wobble, but apparently it's sitting nicely and tightly in. To my frustration the clicking noise was still there after the procedure. Anyway, at least now I know that my BB is brand new and has nice smooth bearings. The lower Q factor has altered my chainline a bit, but nothing serious, I didn't even need to adjust my FD (well, actually I do need to adjust it a tiny bit, but too lazy for that now).
4) Decided to remove and clean both chainrings. When reinstalling, made sure that the bolts are nice and tight. Boom! Noise gone!

I can finally post one here. Picked up a WTB Pure V at Performance Bike to replace the stock saddle on my Giant Escape. I'm not a winter rider but got 15 miles in today with the rare 60° January day. 15 miles would have been the start of the uncomfortableness on the stock saddle. This one felt pretty good. Can't wait to give it a good try if we get some more nice weather or when spring finally comes.

I got a cheap stand, will use it for propping the bike and to service & clean gearing + fine tune rear brake

Got a few more goodies for my hybrid. Trek in Pittsburgh was having their annual warehouse sale.

A coworker sold me his Topeak rack for cheap so I bought the MTX EX trunk bag. I don't have to carry a lot, I now have a spot to toss an extra water bottle or to pack a lunch if I head out to the lake for the day or out to the river. $40

Been wanting a light to replace my 2 crappy flashlights. I wanted the Lights and Motion Urban 350. They had it for $35. Unfortunately all sold out when I got there. I wasn't going to, but the Urban 800 was $80. Regular price there was $150 (Amazon I see after the fact is $100.) So, pretty decent deal and I picked it up. Tested it out in the hallway just now after it started getting dark outside. Holy moly, this thing lights up.

I took my toe clips off. They were too cumbersome to flip over and wiggle my wide feet into when there's traffic around now that I live near traffic. The stock plain metal pedals with teeth my feet just squirmed around terribly on. I wanted to get a set of platforms with the pins, specifically was looking for the Shimano MX80's but all they had left was clipless pedals or plastic platforms of similar junk you can find at Walmart. I swung past Performance Bike on the way to the river to have a little spin and they had the Forte Convert $80 pedals on sale for $60 so I bought those. Feet stick like glue now even with the lack of any tread on my tennis shoes I was wearing.

Snagged a cheap $10 5 LED tail light while I was at Performance too. I'm not too keen on all these super brilliant but little tiny pinpoint LED tail lights. I didn't know how it would be being $10 but it lights up nice. The reflector lights up nice and big which is what I want, not a tiny little pinpoint of a light.

I didn't do a dang thing for my hybrid today ... but I did put a pair of Shimano Saint pedals on the Secteur I'm building up. Blasphemy, I know. That's why I posted about it here and not in the road bike section.

Put on a new Specialized Power Comp saddle, Ritchey Comp 30 degree stem, Shimano PD 530 pedals to be used on my longer trips, short trips I'm sticking with my DMR's. Also replaced the cassette and chain with Shimano HG400 and a SRAM P971 chain.

Took it on a tour of three different city parks this morning, then dressed it up with the saddle I picked up on the way home, and the pedals that were waiting in the mailbox when I got there.

I replaced the Kenda Kwest tires with Panaracer RiBMo PT's on my Gravity. The Kenda tires were ok, but I kept getting flats from small, sharp pebbles through the tread.

Upgraded to a road bike earlier this month so I put new cables, cable housings, brake pads, chain, and did a lube job on the hybrid before handing it down to my brother.

Today I started a major overhaul for my Roam-2 with a few upgrades along the way ... a Deore 9-speed drivetrain being the main switch. And, of course, new cables and housing.

Almost finished. Still need to adjust the rear derailleur, add a couple of links to the chain and true the rear rim a skosh. The bike has no front derailleur. I'm going to try it out as a 1x9 with the tightly geared cassette and see how I like it. If I need to shift to a different chainring I'll just get my fingers greasy. No big deal. I live in a very flat part of the country so I don't think it's going to be a problem.

The modifications from a stock 2011 Roam 2 are:
Alex AT-400 rims
700x32 Kenda Kwest tires
Selle Italia Trans Am saddle
Shimano Deore 510 crankset, rear derailleur and shifter pods
Shimano UN-72 68x113 Bottom Bracket
Shimano HG-50 14t-25t cassette
New cables and housings
New brake pads
Ergon grips

Not all of the parts are new or even NOS. The Deore bits came from a different bike that was modified with Deore LX.

EDIT: OK, I didn't care for the chainline from the 44t front to the 9-speed rear so I swapped out the Deore crankset and square taper BB for an Octalink Gen1 BB and a Specialized crankset that came from my 2004 Sequoia, may she now rest in pieces. The plan is to leave it in the middle 42t chainring and have more useful gears on the cassette. I get more useful gearing without all of the crooked chainline and chain chatter, which is always a good thing.

Here are a couple of pics of the Roam 2 with the Specialized road crankset. I like the looks of the Deore better, but I like the chainline and gearing better with the Specialized cranks and utility is what counts.

That is such a lovely shade of green on that Cannondale.

How does it compare to your 7.7FX?

Is it faster or more comfortable?
