Dust cover removal 1987 Schwinn Tempo
Wondering how to remove this dust cover.
I have never seen one like this.
Does it pop out or unscrew?
Has 2 small holes about the size of a common pin

I think a small diameter pin spanned would be the tool for this. Be sure and dribble some lube in there first!

If you don't know the history of this bike, don't try to unscrew without putting in a bit of penetrating oil and letting it soak in - especially if you don't have the proper tool. I've had them crack or the holes widen on bikes that haven't been maintained. Same goes with the dust caps with a hole for an allen key (they usually strip and the allen key simply spins). Finding correct replacements can be a challenge.

WD40 works great for taking apart all sorts of old plastic parts, things like this cover or things like the plastic push-in fasteners used on car door inside panels and bumper covers, etc.
Also when taking apart plastic hose or electrical connectors under the hood, those plastic pieces (some with a metal clip) that don't come apart even after the clip is pulled out need a bit of soaking time and wiggling but finally come apart without damage.
