Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yesterday’s ride was a right old flail, undertaken with the idea of a TT on Thurs. I’ll be happy with some fake Z2 today, but right now, there’s a hard little blueberry caught in my esophagus, right above the screw tab of my C4-5 fake disc, and I gotta get that sucker up or down before I ride.

I hear ya - no shame in hanging it up for a bit if it's just not there. I definitely had some ride fatigue a couple/few weeks ago. Mix of mental and physical, I think, but I clearly remember pedaling while thinking, "this is dumb. I'm going to take a break." I don't recall if I actually took the next day off or not, but there was just zero enthusiasm and I wasn't sure if/when it would return. It didn't stay long, obviously - not sure if the initial motivation was a return of enthusiasm or if the withdrawal was just worse, but it got me back on and things returned to normal shortly after.

A guy in my club routinely rides randonnours, double centuries, etc. I have no idea what he's training for at the moment but his last three days have been 264, 215, and 188 miles all in the UP and upper Wisconsin.

My 520 stays on the whole time I'm using it.

I'm getting just the lightest bit of rain this morning as the large system slides southeast of me. Once again the apparent dome covering my town is depriving us of any significant rain.

Don’t invite him to the club or none of us will have a chance!

I think I will go out for a short ride in the rain. I found a good use for my old tri-shorts. They are designed with a thinner chamois and don’t get waterlogged like most bike shorts. Perfect for a wet rainy ride!

Did this one, BITD.

Took much less than 20 hours.

I know that there's a million custom builders out there that can all do outstanding work, but you do have a guy locally who's starting to get pretty well regarded:

Dawdled getting out of the door on my recovery ride, so I ended up having to ride it quite a bit harder than intended so that I could get back in time for family fun stuff obligations.
