Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This looks like superfun. On the plus side, I checked out and found that Road America a 4 mile Indy car race track has a two hour window on Mondays and Wednesdays for biking. That's about an hour away from me, but it is now on the bucket list. Like the above only $5 per session. Thanks for the idea.

I was on the bike for about ten minutes last night (if you define night as after sunset) and it was not ideal.

I used to love riding after dark. I think I still would if I was riding in a populated area. I get the willies riding in no man's land in the dark, and alone.

Had a good mid-week ride. It was fairly chilly to start but warmed up nicely. 100% fun. Beats work!

I can tell you doing so on main roads without lights is not great.

Evening departure time from even a week ago is now too late. Autumn blows.

I have been reluctant to consider getting a Di2 "upgrade" on my Habanero because thrifty AND more importantly, the Hab is not set up for internal shifting cables and the external Di2 setups I have seen look quite ugly.

HOWEVER...on today's ride there was a cyclist with Di2 and she said it was run externally, and I did not see any ugly zip-ties and at a glance did not even see any wires. They must have been routed very discreetly under the tubes/stays.

Hmmm....

Sadly they tore down this nearby racetrack several years ago and turned it into a trucking place.

What might have been. #BikeNight

I was amazed last night at what a few weeks off can do to you. It was a very short, spirited ride and I felt like crap after. The other thing is how much the cold air burns my lungs the first few rides until I acclimate to it. Still glad I went.

I no longer go out on a bike without lights, day or night. With that bright headlight hitting them, the oncoming passers don't bother trying to pretend they don't see me.

It's the slow, or non passes that bother me. I am the only recreational road cyclist outside of Merida proper. And I am known to be rich

If I may, which LeMond is that, and how's the tire clearance? It clearly handles some knobs (#twss), but whenever I looked on eBay it was impossible to tell, which is part of what kept me from ever trying one.

It's a 2001 Buenos Aires and it's pretty tight clearance. Kenda Kwick 30mm usually fit but this new rear I just put on rubs a bit in one spot. I'm gonna see if I can put a spacer in between the brake and the brake bridge to see if that gives me any relief.

Lots of loose dogs around here.

Very frightening when you can only hear them running, and not knowing if there's a fence.

I still do a full moon ride every once in a while, but stick to roads I've never seen a dog on.

Of course, the last time I did that, there was a dog where I had never seen one

Isn't the battery usually hidden inside the seat post/seat tube?

I would think you would need at least one hole drilled for that to work.

It could also be worth it to see if nearby Engin Cycles would do some drilling for you...

Went into town and we now have water for showers, ice for drinks, a full tank of diesel, and an empty poo tank. What a feeling! We will hang out for another night and then strike out for the mouth of the Potomac. Where we will probably sit out the wet part of the next front.

I think you can also mount battery under DT. I am just thinking. I am hoping that next version of Di2 might have wireless shifters and wires/battery between FD and RD. That would be cleaner. There is always Etap but it’s quite $$$$.
