The tires are Compass Stampede Pass 700C x 32 mm, the lightweight version. These are made for Panaracer for Jan Heine's company. Pricey, but they are what I rode Eroica Italia on and they are really nice. There are several other companies out there that have very similar (probably identical) tires made by Panaracer.

The Brooks Imperial saddle is great, and exactly what I needed. This is my second one (the first one has been moved to the Cinelli). This one is brand new and essentially untouched. I've been riding the first one for about a year and much to my surprise it was completely comfortable from the first ride on. It is vastly more comfortable than my old Brooks Pro or the legion of plastic saddles that I've gone through in the search for comfort. The only thing I did to it was give an initial coating of proofide and then ride it. A friend of mine bought the exact same saddle and has the same opinion.

Really pretty. I'll keep an eye out for it at Eroica.

That saddle looks fresh out of the box.

Very stunning, fabulous! I too am a Brooks fan, latest new one about a month ago is a pro and also perfect out of the box as well. I have them on all 4 of my current bikes, some worn, old and not. Every one rides excellent I am starting to think that they need to work for a person out of the box. It seems that many of the people that dont like them end up hating if they try to stick it out, especially if they read too much on the internet which seems to fuel a lot of the negative as usual.

That's a peach of a paint job. Time to close my mouth and stop drooling all over the keyboard. I noticed that you have you saddle tilted up a bit. Is it more comfy for you that way?

Perfect Eroic bike! Although I might not need the Red Clover triplizer chainring yet.

H+ Son TB14 rims?

Is it a custom frame? Or when was it made? Most 80s frames can't take that big tires, especially not 32mm.

Are the Soma Nuova Retro Derailleur Cage Plates needed for triplizer granny 30t chainring? Could a Super Record cage do it as well, or is the cage on SR RD to small to wind up the extra needed chain?

Definitely not. I put it on, rode around the block and it slipped into that position because I had forgotten to tighten up the bolts.

So many questions! Yes, those are TB14 rims, my first ever wheel build, done just a couple of weeks before Eroica in Gaiole.

Yes, it was custom made in 1981. I hobbled into Bicycle Odyssey in Sausalito on crutches to get measured for it, shortly after I was run down and my prior bike destroyed by an old guy in a pickup truck. Since I was starting to dabble in criterium racing and also did extensive long distance touring, I wanted an all purpose bike that I could race or tour on, so it was designed with road racing geometry but with fender clearance. At the time it hadn't occurred to me to get two separate bikes for these purposes. However, I bailed on racing so have only toured, commuted and done centuries (and double centuries) on this bike. The fender clearance is why I can jam those 32mm tires in there. Perhaps I was anticipating Jan Heine's research 30 years ahead of time.

The Super Record cage has an official maximum capacity of 28 teeth. My triple setup requires a 37 tooth capacity to work with all gears. Eliminating gears I would never use (i.e. small chainring and smallest three cogs) and allowing chain sag in those gears would bring the capacity need down to 31 teeth. I could potentially trade out my 52 tooth large chainring for a 50, leaving me with still a very usable 102" top gear and bringing the capacity need down to 29 teeth so it might possibly work. This might be something I try sometime, since the long Soma cage does look a little goofy on this bike.

Beautiful job; looks ready for another 30+ yrs of loyal service.

I admire your willingness to give the bike such a top notch resto, then take it right out and give it the kind of hard riding it was built for.

Stunning! As mentioned, that paint looks to nice to actually riding on gravel! I'm having that debate in my head right now... take the Olmo with brand new paint job or the De Rosa with the nicks and chips... But I have known issues with patina.

I built my 1984 Holdsworth 753 with all Campy SR components except for Victory cranks and rims, Campy Doppler retrofriction levers and SR MTB pedals. I wanted lower gears than 52-42.

I'm running 50-38 chainrings with a 13-30 Sachs ARIS 7 speed freewheel. The 2nd gen SR rear derailleur handles job great!

I originally wanted to use 50-35 chainrings but no joy, same with a 50-36. The SR RD couldn't wrap that much chain.

Another goat geared sacrilege... My early 80's Gios! 50-35 Victory cranks, 13-32 Suntour Freewheel, Doppler retrofrictiion levers and Monoplanar brakes!

We're all goats around here! There is no shame in goat-gears for those of us who aren't 20 year old bike racers. The Campy Victory crankset is a great solution to those that want a vintage Campy setup with approximately a "compact crank" gearset. It's really unfortunate that the small chainrings are soooo difficult to obtain.

Like to restore my Ron Cooper also

I bought My Ron Cooper frame in 1976 used from a racer at UC Davis. It was red with white lettering over the years it got pretty chipped up taking it to races stacked with everybody else's bike. eventually I sandblasted it and powder-coated it black but I would really like to find someone to help me restore it to its original beauty or better. I still have the original campy brakes and shifters and etc. I saw this older thread from 4 years ago and if anybody can point me in the right direction for a good painter etc it would be appreciated.
