Saddle help
hi there so i have recently bought a road bike (btwin triban 100 nothing special at all) i enjoy riding and am planning to go on some small tours on the upcoming months. that said i am ok with the provided saddle but don't think it will hold up on longer rides. (will be doing 70 ish km ride this weekend so ill be sure then. that said on my van moof have a saddle that when i haven't gone on longer rides in awhile has me in quite a bit of pain the last 15ish km.
I was thinking of getting a brooks b17 for the road bike due to all the praise on the comfort of em, my thinking is since i am never gonna be raising just using the bike for commuting and 3 to 10 days touring the saddle would fit my needs. That said i am kinda torn on whether to get a b17 imperial or the standard. if it helps in any way i currently weight about 102 kg and i'm about 1.69 m, any experiences here on those to saddles? don't really have anywhere to try out the saddles hence why i'm torn.

I haven't ridden with one, but when my saddle breaks I am going to get a Brooks B17 as several in my riding group have them and swear by them. Don'[t know if they are Standard or Imperial, but I would assume Standard as they haven't mentioned a difference. May take a few months to break in, but once it does it is supposed to be wonderful. Otherwise try and find a shop that is willing to let you try several different saddles (yeah, good luck with that!) and see what works.

I am about the same weight, and love my B17. The best advice I’ve seen on breaking in: Brooks Pro
I have not sanded down and dyed mine, but the rest I can attest to.
And don’t use chamois cream, it will soak into your saddle.

amyways are you using b17 standard or imperial? I'll be honest besides the standard being a little bit cheaper on the site i'd be buying i'm also attracted to the funky color choices. seeing as i'm gonna be sticker bombing this frame either today or tomorrow depending on arrival date of that last sticker pack, i'd like a funky colored brooks, but afraid of discomfort due to the forward leaning position. That said i do understand this bike has a more relaxed position than most road bikes. can i ask what type of bike you have the b17 on? if it's a more aggresive riding position than mine i'll just get the standard

welp i pulled the trigger and went for the green b17 standard should be arriving tuesday. so ill have at least a couple miles break in before longer ish ride to nearby city the weekend after.

Sorry, I didn’t see the question about bike type. I have a gravel bike - relaxed geometry, drop bars.
The damp rag will speed up break in tremendously. Have fun!

If I saw correctly, only difference between the Imperial and the Standard is that the Imperial comes with the cutout and different colors. I'd say if you are used to a cutout then that might be the way to go. I didn't know there were different models of the B17, but I now think I would use the cutout version.

I have never used a seat with a cut out. I read Effective Cycling and seat cut outs were done way back when for some ladies to alleviate pain from friction.

Right now, my favorite saddle is Carved C17. I like this saddle on my touring bikes and road bikes that I use for supported tours. I also like that it is an all weather saddle.

well i ordered the standard b17, should be here wednesday. let's hope it's comfortable for me. the flashy green color had something to do with the choice though, just to complete my eye melting bright monster of a bike.
