I love my resistance rollers. Sunday Feb 3 I'm going to host a spin session at my shop. Not riding outside in that, no, no. Group rides with friends are always fun, even stationary ones.

When younger and racing, I rode the trainer every single day of winter. Very disciplined and dedicated. Now that I have wised up there is no longer a need to torture myself in this manner. I hike every day of the winter, yes even today with -30 wind chill and -5 air temp. Much more pleasant.

Man, I can't identify with this. I love riding outdoors and can go all day. Riding on a trainer, the time literally crawls by.
Maybe something like Zwift would make a difference. <shrug>

I wouldn't say I LOVE my trainer, but I do like it a lot on those days when the weather outside sucks and I feel like riding. Smart rollers + Rouvy... the next best thing to being out on the road IMHO.

I saw negative 34 degrees Fahrenheit here less than a week ago. The trainer is treated somewhat as a necessity. I don't really push myself on it, but I use it. While on it my mind treats the rides as accumulative distances that would take me out of this state permanently. Never to look back.

I have two separate things I love about biking, one is the actual outdoor riding, and two is the very act of exercise. Winter, I ride a ton on the trainer/roller at night after work when it is a small time window to get a good workout. I love them because the alternative is a shorter ride on the very dark, usually wet roads around my house. I enjojy riding outside way more, but working 50 hours a week and getting good exercise on weeknights is very difficult. So yes, I love my trainer....rollers even more.

I like my resistance rollers, I always have. Even in the summer they can provide me with a structured, uninterrupted workout when time or weather won't allow it. Don't get me wrong, I prefer to ride outside and do every chance I get, but I'm not taking a beating in the cold, snow and ice anymore.

I don't love my trainer. I hate it a lot less now that I ride on Zwift, but I still prefer to ride outdoors, even in the cold. Up to a few years ago, my comfort boundary was +10 °F, but now that I have bar mitts, it's more like -10 °F. Last Sunday morning, my ride began at -13°F and ended at about -7 °F (that's air temperature, not wind-chill).
(BTW "wind chill" is sort of meaningless when you are yourself moving through the air at 10-15 mph)
So now I ride outside except for when it's truly cold even for Minnesota, or when road conditions (chiefly bad ice) exceed my comfort level with a cx bike and studded tires.

I love riding outdoors but I've never enjoyed riding in the rain or when it is below freezing outside or on the days after the roads have been covered with salt/sand after snow/ice. Zwift fills in those gaps - on those days, I love my trainer!
The one other scenario: If I only have about a 1 hour window to ride, I'd almost never get in an outdoor ride but will hop on Zwift for a 45 - 60 minute workout ride or race.

How do you keep your face warm? Even when I did downhill skiing in very cold temperatures, I found those face masks (I think it was neoprene - I got it back in the 90's) very annoying because the moisture in my breath would condense and freeze on them and in turn freeze my skin. I'm a mouth breather, if that makes a difference. Nearly always have nasal congestion.

I don't love my trainer but I do love my treadmill.
Instead of laying on the couch, drinking beer and watching TV, I walk super slow on the treadmill, while watching the news and\or mindless rubbish.

On the bike trainer I just can’t get my heart rate up as high and work out not same. I do think pushing the trainer is actually great for riding in the short run as no coasting. You make gains without going on the roads and that is not happening here with what we have in Central Illinois.

I can't say I love mine. I do try to ride outside in winter but I'm pretty picky, clear, dry, sunny and minimal winds, upper 20's. When my unreasonable condition requirements aren't met, I resort to the trainer and appreciate it.

I love the "Next Post" sidebar; all that shows is what I took as a title reading "I love my trainer - NOT!"
With 8 inches of snow the past few days it is the only option to get some work in. Perfect 45 minute break over lunch today watching the first half of the Champions League match on the big screen between Man U and PSG.

We were hit with “Maya”s foot of snow up here at the Straits but the rest of the week is good riding. Keeping fingers crossed it does appear the subzero temps are behind us. I just gotta be outside.

Finding that the recumbent machines at our YMCA work pretty well for me and my stoker/spouse - our tandem is recumbent as are my single bikes. I would rather ride outdoors but not a fan of cold, ice, snow, etc. Finding it interesting/fun/challenging to do intervals on the machine while keeping a close eye on heartrate, time and effort numbers and graphics.

Getting myself back into shape, or trying, I won't say I love my trainer. Took a lot of time to get myself to a place to even ride on the trainer. I quit a couple years ago due to an achilles tendon issue, and feeling too top heavy on a rear wheel only type trainer. After the achilles tendon and heel spur surgery, I gained weight. And, let's just say I had a bad year. I decided on weight loss surgery, and that has been an excellent decision on my part with excelent results so far. Over 70 pounds lost since surgery in Oct 2018, but just sy of 100 pounds total since my heaviest. I now have a bike locked into an older Performance branded trainer, rear axle locked in and the front wheel removed and locked ina th the fork. Very solid. Confidence inspiring. While I have a treadmill as well, the bike takes the load off my failing right knee and my weak left ankle. Most other exercise is difficult or painful at best. And I can't get the same effort in a recumbent gym bike that I can on my bike on the trainer. Do I love it? No. But I see it as my best option as I am able to improve my fitness and cardio. And that, is the reward for the effort...

I love my trainer too! Kickr Core and Kickr Climb + Zwift. I can't get enough, man it's fun!!
PS., I've yet to be passed by a car while Zwifting.
