Finding vintage Campy brake levers

I recently acquired this beautiful early 80’s (?) Tommaso road bike equipped with almost all vintage 12 speed Campy Super Record except for the brake levers which are Shimano SR. The Shimanos work great and look right at home on the bike but it seems a shame not to finish it off complete with Campy.
A quick search of eBay shows a number of units for sale but am I looking for something specific other than it being exclusive for braking only ?

If you want to keep downtube shifters, you are looking for something braking only.

...then aero or not...

c-record, Chorus? Or if non-aero, Victory, SR, NR...?

edit: on closer look, Super Record brakes? Super Record levers, non-aero...

But there’s really no compatibility issue to worry about right? If I find good condition Campy SR “brake only” levers they will work ?

For $120 I would hope for better condition and hoods. I would keep looking, and something will come along (DISCLAIMER: I have no idea of the value of SR levers). but those are pretty scraped up.

Yup. These would be the ticket:
VeloBase.com - Component: Campagnolo 4062, Super Record pre-'83 (hoods w/ world/globe logo)

I am glad you did! Your Tommaso thanks you!

Oddly, I prefer the Nuovo Record levers (and actually Sun Tour Superbe), but Super Record fits your bike.

I kinda do, too. Not that I don't like drilled levers. I have Super Record on a bike. And my favorites, drilled Modolo Speedy, on another. But there's something special about the look and feel of non-drilled NR.

I think it is the elegance of it...? Still, the Sun Tour Superbe are the best looking of the lot, in my opinion.

Funny enough, the Shimano SLR 105s are the best feeling levers I have ever used.

Blasphemer! Get thee some flatted sew-ups to repair as penance...

Lovely Tommaso, I am glad you found a pair of levers with hoods. I particularly like the paint scheme on your bike, it makes me think of blue talavera tiles. The paint scheme also reminds me of some Benottos.

Have fun with it!

The 105;s are aero, the NR's are not. They can be modified for aero but it is a bit of a pain and performance will likely suffer. If you ride on the hoods a lot, you will find the 105's a bit more comfortable. My preference is for Campagnolo too. Although my Pinarello came (used) with DA 740x, I am in the process of con=verting to Campy. The advantage for me is moving from DT to Ergo's. Prices and aesthetics of DA STI's was not appealing at all with the side exit of the cable.

I can understand your desire, My 1983 Colnago is all Super Record/NR components. It is the most period correct bike I have, except one or two more modern bikes.

Luckily, I have never made the transition to sew-ups...!

In fact, I have a pair of Victory Strada/Victory hubs sitting doing nothing...

Happy to lend you a few that are still waiting...
You can just send'em back when you're done.

It's actually not that bad, if you set yourself up to do it properly. (Not really a thing to rush, in time for a ride.)
