13th Annual Greater Chicagoland Spring Classic & Vintage Ride - April 27

***POSTPONED BY 24 HOURS***

Due to a 100% chance of 30s-40s, rain and driving wind, the ride is hereby postponed by 24 hours.

See you Sunday. Meet at 8:30, ride at 9:00.

Yes, a “bad” luck ride. Bring an extra patch kit and rain cape.

WHAT: Open invitation to a ride for anyone who reads this post, and their friends. Riding your vintage bike is highly encouraged but all bikes and riders are welcome. This is a no drop ride but there is no SAG support.

WHEN: Saturday April 27, 2019. Meet at 8:30, start ride at 9:00 am.

WHERE: Crystal Lake Main Beach Parking Lot - https://goo.gl/maps/4EhUKKHiHdS2

FORMAT: A nice leisurely 40-mile ride, flat as a pancake, fish tacos at the end of the ride. This is the route. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/4101456 I will have a print out of the map and cue sheet at the start of the ride.

No-Drop rule, B-group speed.

Only moral support is provided. You must provide your own fluid/food for the ride. There is a stop at a quiky mart at the halfway point for food and drink.

WHY: This is meant as a social ride. It is an opportunity for vintage enthusiasts, friends and acquaintances to get together and meet, and ride together in a group. And eat some great tacos, or torta, or burrito or whatever floats your boat. Here are 2018 pictures - https://www.flickr.com/photos/681231...57692795712072

Feel free to bring other riders as well, but remember this is not an “organized event”. This is simply a large group ride.

Please spread the word to anyone else you think might be interested.

This is a great ride that I have done numerous times. If you haven't done this ride, you should. Nice route, nice people, nice bikes.

Unfortunately, I'll be out of state at this time.

I read this post, and have no friends, so I'm assuming it's open to me.
I'm in.
My goal is to not need moral support.
Or judgement for that matter, as I'm game for what that quicky mart may have.....

I plan to be there!
I also plan to have a fendered bike ready to go, depending on the forecast. A sunny day and warm breezes would be preferred, though.
It'll be good to see some of the Chicagoland folks again! (and Robbie too. )

Personally, if the weather is nice, I plan to bring the Raleigh Team. Sure, you've seen it, as has Mr Crankaddict, but it's a neat bike and deserves to be seen by others.

If it looks like it'll be wet, I'll bring one of the fendered bikes. One was made by a small framebuilder in Iowa, and the other was made by a small framebuilder in Arlington Heights. Any preference? (other than the obvious preference for dry weather, of course..)

(took the Raleigh Team out for a nice group ride this morning, and even got to wear one of my Raleigh Team wool-ish jerseys)

Well I can give a hint, the bike I will bring is red.

hmm.... is it one of the Schwinns? I've kind of lost track of the bikes that have moved in and out of your collection.
I vaguely recall you picking up a bike that was marked as an International, but was actually a Paramount. Don't recall the color, though.
Since then, you've gotten the chromed beauty from John H., which you rode last year.
I'm pretty sure you've mentioned other bikes since then too. It's starting to look like some sort of shell game to keep your spouse from accurately figuring out how many bikes you actually have.

I'll be your friend, Robbie, haha. If our fearless leader from Peoria goes, as it looks like he did last year, you guys will be half of our group from the Tanner's Orchard/Illinois River ride! Wish I could go, but I gotta take Wifey to see Zach Brown in Peoria later that night. Have fun.

I am still waiting for Scott, aka crank_addict, to paint my Paramount. I am not sure I will have that bike this year or the next. LOL

I will be riding my Roberts if the weather is good, my Prologue or PX 10 if the weather is bad.

This is a fun ride with good folks and good roads. I rode it a few years ago on a Bianchi Limited that I had just finished. The mechanical breakdown gods gave me a pass that day and I finished without incident. Given my experience at the time, more by luck than design.

Can't make it this year, I'll be opening up my place in Indiana for a motorcycle ride with @nomadmax in June. We'll take the ferry across the Kentucky River - check out the Valley View Ferry on Tates Creek road south of Nicholasville, KY.

I don't think I've seen the Roberts....

I've seen the Witcomb:

I've seen the PX-10:

and I've seen the shiny Ochsner:

The Roberts should be interesting!

Good luck with the Paramount. Is Scott just waiting to finish up the Titan before painting the P'mount?

I have no idea what Scott is waiting for? He has many projects going on. I payed for the paint job with frame sets and parts, adding to the projects. LOL

Titans are never finished. You stumble across 1/2 gram savings, and you reconsider the entire build. That is one addictive bike.

Is it save to consider this is flat terrain, and one can bring about anything?

iab says it is flat as a pancake. There are a couple of lumps in the batter here and there. I did it one year on our Semi Pro with no problems.

It's a good route, and it's as flat as a pancake. I did it on a Paramount with 53 & 49 chainrings and a 14-24 freewheel.

Have you installed silk sew-ups yet?? That would be just about the ultimate (for tires, anyway... )

Anyway.. regarding terrain, it's not bad. Some small rollers. A 42 x 24 low gear is plenty.
Heck, Mr. IAB did the route on his Frejus with just one gear!

Close. Scott's always trying to get me to use old tires. I found some that even he wouldn't use (they hold air).

Yes, but you're a monster.

I'll bring something simple, then. @iab did the Dairyland Dare on that Frejus. Opposite of flat.

One week away. I am so out of shape. The lumps in the pancakes are going to be fun.
