Tire Size ?

Hello,

Want to help a youngster purchase a new tire.
Present tire has these numbers embossed on it:

2.8-4.6 kgi cm
280-460 kpg
5.8 - 406
2.0 X2. 2.5.
K-841-016 TO FIT H8 422 RIM

Not into biking; age problem.

So, what please is the Rim size ? I seem to remember in the "old days" it was typically simply given as e.g., 24 inches, or...
And, the tire size ?

Thanks,
B.

It looks like you may have an ISO-406 bmx tire:

Check this web site:

Good luck. PG

The nominal rim size is 20". Yours has a bead seat diameter of 406 millimeters and a width of 5.8 centimeters. Buy the tire with this bead seat diameter and it will fit. Don't buy a tire by the 20 inch designation because there are multiple bead seat diameters that use this designation. The most common are 406 mm and 451 mm. The latter has a rim that is almost 2" greater in diameter.

The two most common 20” wheels/tires are 406 and 451. Both sizes can be found on a variety of bmx, recumbent, folding and mini-velo bikes. And other styles. Not interchangeable. That’s an odd assortment of numbers listed in the first post. Guessing that you need a 20” x 2.25” tire. Or a 58-406 tire. Two ways to say the same size.

There is a 422mm rim and subsequent tire people seem to be missing... it is more commonly referred to as a “fat tire bike” but the rims tire seat is 422mm which brings me to why I’m looking online about this... I would like to stretch a 20x1.95 - 2.1 tire on a pair of these for my custom bike and am trying to find anyone that has done it... a radius difference of 8mm seems doable... but I can’t even seem to find anyone that knows about the ‘correct’’application of these things let alone customization of them... oh well guess I’ll buy then try haha

I don't think you're going to have much luck - the bead has to seat pretty firmly to stay on the rim.

I tried once (accidentally) to put a 622mm tire on a 630mm rim. Absolutely no go.

I will say I couldn't find anything about a 422 size at SheldonBrown.com, which is my normal reference for this stuff:

Aren't those the fat tires used on some electric bicycles? Find an electric bicycle shop in your area and they should be able to supply you with some.
