Altus Derailuer Cable Path.??

I changed out the front and rear derailluer on my Schwinn today. I put a Shimano Acera out back and an Altus up front. The back went really well. I'd never done this to a bike and didn't know what to expect. Nearly a straight drop in out with the Acera with very few adjustments. It's the front Altus that is the issue here.....

I hooked it up first try and things were running good. But, upon inspection looking at the way I hooked the cable onto the deraillure did not look right. It was shifting fine but I didn't feel comfortable having it look that way.... I simply had the cable pointing down through the lock nut, I tightened it and as I said it was shifting good. Here's what's throwing me off....

On the derailluer there is a "rounded chute" or what looks to be a guide that would alter the train of the cable. It looks like I need to sort of thread the needle with the cable. But, I can't figure out the route.

Anyone have an illustration for me.?? Any help would be appreciated. I'm having fun with it. wink.

Never Fix A Running Piece. Some front derailleurs can be set up for the cable to pull from the top or from the bottom, and the "chute" is used to turn the corner. If it shifting fine just leave it alone.

Edit: Look at page 44 of this document for diagrams of top and bottom pull cable attachments: https://si.shimano.com/pdfs/dm/DM-GN0001-23-ENG.pdf
