Did you know that there's a law on the books in the UK that covers "careless and inconsiderate cycling"? Only in Britain.
29 Careless, and inconsiderate, cycling.
If a person rides a cycle on a road without , or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road, he is guilty of an offence [sic].

The cycling one was introduced after a woman stepped out into the path of a cyclist, and died of her injuries. It was claimed the cyclist was travelling too fast for the conditions.
In fact, cyclists are exempt from many road laws. We can exceed the speed limit, whilst over the drink drive limit, and be protected from law, simply because we're on a bicycle.. unless the officer can find another law to use against us (and there are likely to be many laws said officer could use in that situation).

I know of someone second hand that got jail time for riding drunk in Pennsylvania. Previously had gotten a dui in a car, so it was serious. We are also famous for drunks being arrested for riding a horse drunk and driving to the bar on a riding lawnmower.
When I was riding on the trails near DC during morning commute hours, I felt sorry for the walkers, and also questioned their sanity. Similarly, I questioned my sanity as well, there were lots of close calls. There are some serious pathletes there that don't slow down for anything or anybody and will pass even if there are oncoming bikes. Including one guy wearing a suit on an upright bike with a nice leather briefcase in a basket on the back who was really fast. And once he got past our group, he ran a couple of red lights just for style points.

I remember once seeing a video of a cell phone user walking into a fountain while using the phone. When I googled that incident, many such incidents came up. I used to think watching TV made people stupid. It is actually using cell phones that causes stupidity.
That will teach me to jump to conclusions.

Dialog starts with questions, not lectures and calling people idiots.
Maybe, "Hey, can I speak with you?" might have been a better way to get his attention than, "You know you have it backwards." Introduce yourself, ask his name, tell him yours, ask why he has the red light on front and let the conversation proceed from there.
Conversation is an art which has been lost in the internet age. Now we shout, lecture, trade series of competing "I" statements and then complain to the internet that everyone around us are idiots.

Or how about having to get off the MUP so I didnt collide with a DF rider on my side of the trail, head down, down staring at his front wheel. This has happened several times.

Kinda funny thing, I've actually had this happen on two different occasions, both with female riders... I ride up on them, (this was before I got my bell) and call out (not yell out) "Passing on your left" and they screamed/cried out in fear, I scared them, both times they apologized as I passed and said something to the effect of "Sorry, I was in my own little world."
My response both time was a laugh and "I know, I go there all the time..."
Haven't we all...
