Hi, I have had situations similar t this in the past and have used a very, very fine file to lightly remove the large abrasions confining my filing to the particular area (stay close) and after I have removed enough of the scratches, I move on to an 800 and then 1200 wet-dry sandpaper.
If you stay within the margins of the damaged area you will find that the 1200 grit paper closely simulates the anodizing of the aluminum...I don't polish after doing this.
Good Luck, Ben

My experience is even if you smooth it out there's going to be a gray line where the anodization stops. Road rash merely looks used. If deep road rash is offensive, I've only sand/file it to look like milder road rash.
