Finished transferring parts over to a new frame last night. Nailed the shifting and brakes right out of the gate, which always feels good. Saw a fellow commuter almost eat it on a chunky section of ice.

My ride yesterday was like this. Changed out the wheels, tires, and cassette on our cancelled "snow day" Tuesday. Car didn't start on Wednesday, so I had to hit the slush and ice at 7AM (most surrounding school districts had delays-- not ours!) with no test ride on the rig. Looks like I got it correctly tuned on the stand... no worries!

19F when I left the house, but already 26F 30 minutes later. It will be nice to not need long underwear and heavy shoes and hats and snowgloves for a bit. Temperatures are supposed to get into the 60s by Sunday. I'll miss the snow on the ground.

Dang, haven't been able to commute at all this week. Getting over a nasty respiratory infection. Today would have been sooo perfect with high's in the 60's today. Tomorrow rain plus office Christmas party after work. Then I'm off all next week.

It was cold and icy on my short trip to the co-op tonight... have been riding the newly minted fixed gear mtb and even without studs I felt pretty stable.

I loaded the bike this morning with a mindset of going multi-modal (bike and bus). Once I got on the road, that south wind (i live south-west of the city) was giving me just a little nudge to keep riding. So, I rode the full 15 miles into downtown.
My best ride in a while. Very little car traffic, friendly pedestrians..

A bit cold on the ride in today since I left my sub-freezing clothes at home. Thermometer read 30F when I left. It's supposed to get up into the 40s today, so I didn't want to lug around my heavy sweatshirt and winter gloves. Should be a very nice ride home.

I had lots of friendly waves on the way in. Don't know why.

Quite a week for commuting. I rode every day, ending up with my "megacommutatron" today. I'm meeting some friends on the way home for our annual Christmas light ride, which will add about 20-25 extra miles to my daily commute. Should end up with over 50 miles for the day, which would make it my longest commute ever.

I also got one of my Christmas presents early, a new LED rechargeable bike light, which I used this morning for the first time. It's a Light & Motion Taz 1000, which is about twice as powerful as the L&M Urban 500 that I've been using for the past two years. More importantly, the Taz has longer run-times, so I shouldn't have to worry about the battery losing its charge on extra long commutes like today.

Last nights commute took on a slightly different route. The MUP/sidewalk I generally use for a 2 mile stretch in a high traffic area was not passable with the bike. The city ran the snowblower over it but what remained was about 2in of soft trampled snow by foot traffic and my bike just darts and weaves through all that and is rendered impassable. I took to the street and commanded the lane for the first time in this section and found it to be relatively uneventful. The traffic was bumper to bumper and really slow so it was nice to keep up and I made it through just fine but with a lot of strange looks from drivers. I think they were thinking "what the heck is he doing riding a bike in winter in traffic?" Commanding the lane was fun and being able to keep up with the pace was a plus. I can do this in the morning just fine as there is not much traffic at all and all right hand turns but the evening commute is totally different.

55F when I left the house - I've forgotten how to dress for these temps! Lots of rain today which is good - I need my bike washed off. Yesterday I stopped to visit a friend who's in the hospital. I decided to take a different route home that uses an old canal tow path (where the donkeys used to pull the barges). All was fine until I got to that path which is dirt. What happens when dirt gets wet - mud. And since it's a dirt path no one salts it was ice covered mud. Interesting ride for a couple miles before I bailed and hit the streets.

This is my last official day of work for the year. I reached my 4,000 mile goal and looking forward to some play rides next week. Happy holidays all - see you next year!

My commute was 12 degrees warmer today than it was yesterday morning. I think I overdressed today. Spent a lot of time venting to cool off. I rode it almost the same pace as I was this summer.

My ride home will put me over 1600 commuting. I started this year hoping to double what I did last year. I have 3x the amount of miles over last year. Thanks for this thread, a coworker challenging each other, and a challenge at work. I am motivated to keep on riding. I and few others were written up on the work website. It was pretty exciting...

I am not sure if I will get to ride again before the end of the year. PTO and traveling...

Took the car for servicing and took the bike on the rack for the trip back home. I've done this once before and it was delightful. After leaving the car, I went downtown to buy coffee. There were *two* protests going on, one about pension checks and one about public waterworks, and so downtown was cordoned off. Cars were stopped in the streets, people were going crazy, and of course I got through on the bike! Yay! Got my freshly roasted coffee, still warm in the bag, and rode home.

Crazy week . Started with snow and lower 20s. This morning it was 40 when I left the house , and 54 for the ride home. Congrats to all who reached their commuting goals , and to those who tried and didn't there is always next year to look forward to. I have been lucky enough to work in the same location since june and rackup 2400 miles. hoping to stay where I'm at for awhile longer.

Curious to hear how you like the L&M Taz. I love the L&M urban lights, but the battery life of them (and similar small bright lights) isn't great.

It was quite a bit colder this morning then the rest of the week, 35 when I left the house in Marin, but in the mid 40's at work when I got there. I think I dressed just about right though.

I rode fast today, one of my best times in a while. I also left a bit earlier as I needed to make it to work in time for a meeting (which I did with 5 min to spare). This meeting was added motivation to peddle harder. Leaving earlier meant the sun was very low and in my face, making it really hard to see the first part of my commute while riding with the sun in my face.

I realize this could be my last commute of the year with the holidays. After the ride home I will have logged about 1275 mi since I started bike commuting in late August.

Went to get the bus to work today but there was no bus, just a bunch of people stuck in cars going nowhere. Went for a little bike ride on snowy trails instead of going to work.

Today was my first commute in over 2 years and the first since I moved out of Southern California six months ago.

It was foggy and around 46. No rain, but the fog was so thick everything was wet like it had. Hardly any traffic until I got onto Highway 101. Thankfully, I didn't encounter any of Humboldt's tweaker population this morning.

Now to get through the last 4 hours of a 55 hour week.

I drove in today because it was thick fog and pouring rain. With driver's heads distracted with Christmas, I didn't want to take a chance.
