Feels like riding in glue
I have a topstone 1 with the stock WTB Riddle 700x37 tires. When I ride in mud maybe not even 1/2” deep it feels like I’m riding in glue, is this normal? I’m coming over from road riding so this is new to me.

Mud is a slower surface than pavement. It makes the tire feel like its being 'held' by the ground.

It is also why cross country racing bikes have generous clearances around the tires despite the rule allowing only tires up to 32c.

I have those tires and think they're a decent choice for early season cross races on grass and gravel, but they're not great mud tires, especially sticky mud.
