Headed towards Long Beach early this morning with a few guys. One had a Vitus TT, Peugeot Triathlon, and I took the Bianchi Krono. 28 miles round trip before each went our separate ways to celebrate Easter with family.

Today we had what I really, really, hope is the first warm day to not be followed by bitter cold (mid 40’s and windy 2 days ago). Got 40+ miles in on the C40. First time she’s been out in months.Realized today that this year marks 25 years for this one, so even though carbon fiber (mostly) probably qualifies in some books for C+V.

Finally, out for some miles in the city. I did my Hipster Trail ride, headed downtown starting at Central Park then beeline down 7th Avenue to the Village and over the Manhattan Bridge. Stopped 3 times to tighten this, flip that, and massage my fenders a bit. Once I made it to downtown Brooklyn I visited my son who was working his shift at a cafe in the DeKalb Marketplace for a snack and iced Americano. First, made sure my bike was securely situated:
Quintessential NYC bike parking. I know, I should have put the u-lock through the rear wheel too. However, I could see it from where I was and kept an eye on it the whole time.


I sure didn't leave my bags and pump outside!

Then it was north to the bikeways along the Brooklyn waterfonrs in WIlliamsburg and Greenpoint. New experience there, a youngish couple swooped into the lane in front of me but didn't really gain any distance. They seemed to have decent handling skills so I didn't mind as long as they kept the tempo up - until he went "whoa!!" and swung to the right with his legs out - I thought he rolled through something wet because I could see spray from his wheels. It kept pinwheeling out and I realized it was his tubeless sealant! She started to slow to keep with him and I had to call out and excuse myself, muttering under my breath about carrying tubes and levers. Who wants to get sprayed with that gunk?

Shortly after, I spotted this and just had to.

Seemed timely.

Continued over the Pulaski Bridge to Long Island City, over the Queensboro Bridge to Manhattan and back uptown. Here I am, in my Easter Bonnet:

I'm taking a little vacation in Gold Country (Nevada City, CA). I did the "LeMond Loop" (or Newtown Loop), a short but hilly 15 miles through some scenic farmland. Greg rode a Gitane, too. Temps in the 60s, it was a gorgeous, windless, sunny morning. I'm going to seek out some trails tomorrow.

Both Friday and Sunday, I had to go from point A to point B. Friday, I rode to UW, hopped on the light rail (shown with the red line) and took it as far as Rainier Beach station, then rode the rest of the way. Today, I rode the whole way and shaved 15 minutes off Friday's total time. The light rail is fast, but it's not that fast.

I returned today from a three-day credit card tour, a somewhat spontaneous decision to spend three days on the bike in early spring here in New England. I had actually planned and then cancelled this trip in Dec due to unfavorable weather, but after I learned that a previous commitment today needed to be rescheduled, I went for it. My route took me southwest across the MA/CT border to Willington, CT, on day 1, pretty much due north back into MA, through Amherst and the Pioneer Valley to Orange, MA, on day 2 and then from Orange back to the Boston area today. I wasn’t on a C&V bike, but I’m old, so it sorta counts. Took a few pics on the way.


Contemplated a new vehicle.

Found some respite at the top of a long climb.

Still looks pretty wintery around here.

Lots of lakes in central MA.

Can’t say I wasn’t warned.

Spent a lovely Spring afternoon riding around some of the local ponds and lakes. There's a series of trails that kinda joins them all together.
