@Duke7777 when I saw you'd posted, I knew this would be good. You've got such an wonderful collection. Beautiful examples above. I love the curves on the Monteil. That's a new one for me. Thanks for sharing!

Seat cluster lug used by Daccordi in the 80s-90s. Sadly the rest of the lugs are much simpler without the claws
on the same Daccordi a super simple rounded fork
As others have already posted, the French style seat stay seat cluster connection is such an elegant classic
cutout lugs are always great. I appreciate the little cut out on the fork crown (in a sea of fork crowns that are very similar to this it's a nice little detail

disclaimer: not my bikes, but they are my photos...
with that out of the way, I'd like to offer shots of some of Mark DiNucci's work.
here is a bike that was displayed at the 2018 Classic Rendezvous gathering...
and an unpainted frame that he had on display at the 2015 NAHBS. I was just amazed at the work that went into the construction of the lugs and the degree of finish work involved! Also... it's always fun to see the unpainted frame, whether lugged or fillet brazed. It lets you see the contours better, and it provides a better look at how carefully those contours are controlled as evidenced by the smooth border between the brass and the steel.
so if you get the feeling that you are in the market for a custom frame with killer lugs, Mark is someone you should talk to!

Micheal Bornstein from when he worked for Andy at Strawberry, this supposedly became Greg Meeker's training bike after he went back to Micheal's in Ames Iowa

The tape wraps are to cushion/protect the top tube from handlebar hits, and the downtube from brake caliper hits. They work pretty well against the casual fork swings and fall-overs, might not protect 100% in a bad crash-up.
In the old days we used bar tape, now I use self-fusing silicone tape. The silicone tape goes on and comes off really clean. That's a help if you have remove/replace, either because it gets ratty, or because you changed your bar/stem, or sometimes just changed bar height, and then the bar hits the top tube in a different spot.
That, and "sealing" the bottom headset cup with a slice of stretched inner tube were kind of finishing touches. I don't do the inner tube headset thing much anymore because I'm lazy and favor sealed headsets.

Is it my imagination, or were the early 90's an era when people really started to value artistic lugs?
The Sept 1992 issue of Bicycling had a couple of shots of some Glenn Erickson lugs as background for the table of contents....
sooo cool!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Glenn still owns some of them. But very sadly he now has Parkinson’s. We saw him on his e-bike (a very subtle Orbea) with his wife on a ride in the Cascade foothills a couple of years ago. Nancy remembered us, but the disease is also affecting his memory.

My wife’s snowflake frame with the matching stem hangs in the great collection of classic bikes at Recycled Cycles in Seattle.
