I know this is a heresy but I have always hated the drop-down “racing” handlebars. I would to change the Cannondale to the wider, flat type bars. Great success on the Peugeot. I do not ride competitively and lower back limits my time riding.

The SR900 (bare aluminum frame) has handlebar-mounted shifters as well as brakes.

Any suggestions?

Hi- I have an SR900 too and funnily enough I’m heading the opposite way. When I got it it was just a frame set, so I built it up with flat bars. I used an Easton set, not too wide, pretty straight - from an older mountain bike.

While I was very comfortable in terms of my position, I didn’t like the handling. Maybe because I also had a riser stem on it, so the bars’ location was not close enough to the front axle? At any rate, I’m going back to drop bars, but with a short, traditionally-shaped road stem.

So I’d recommend whatever bars you end up with, have plenty of height and backsweep, but make sure it’s still a stem that keeps that bar not TOO far away from where a shallow drop bar would put it for reach (forward).
