Gravel bike brake bridge question.

About 10 years ago I built a gravel bike out of a Redline Team Pro frame. At the time I used canti brakes as the frame had studs. I'm planning on switching to a a pair of long reach road brakes and I noticed the rear bridge is only drilled on one side for a brake mount. Is this common? Is it ok to drill through?

If the drilling is threaded, then the hole is probably there for if you want a fender.

Why are you trying to replace cantis with long-reach calipers?

No real pressing reason, just have a set and was switching some other things up. Like the look better.

Upon closer inspection it is a treaded insert (filled with dirt). Question still stands, ok to drill through?

What tires are you running. What tires are you planning to run?

What are you planning to ride the bike on?

It seems like you are seriously diminishing this bike's abilities for not apparent gain.

I ride 50/50 pavement/ good dirt roads. Some steeper climbs/descents. Are the long reach dual pivots that bad. I haven't used them, part of a parts swap. Been in the box a while.
Currently running 38s but could go narrower. The tire was from a previous location with rough washboard dirt. Frame is pretty maxed out at 38.

Threaded = fender mount. Probably ok to drill through but in my experience the Tektro long reach brakes I used left a lot to be desired. I think I would suggest some linear brakes (like Paul mini-motos) before Tektro. But, I understand already having them is a big plus so it probably won't hurt to try.

Well, the cantis on there work fine so maybe I'll leave well enough alone.
I have parts box v-brakes and some left over travel agents so that's another option.

Every single long reach caliper including modern dual pivot stuff i've seen has been horrible. They only do one thing: flex.

It's probably not safe to use a fender mount as a brake mount.

If it's a low budget build I would get some higher quality brake pads, and/or some decent used cantis depending on what's on there right now, or some cheaper mini V-s that are made for road/canti levers.
