Unofficial 2018 Mileage Pissing Contest
Zwift/trainer miles don't count, and neither do swimming/running/hiking/walking miles.

Subtract 200 or so miles if you don't like rollers.

Pedaling indoors is exactly the same as pedaling outdoors. I count every time the pedals spin (in a training capacity).
With that said, I barely cracked 5000 this year. Actually, 5,194 at an average speed of 19.9 mph. Huzzah!

3,235 miles, about half of 2017 due to injury and illness. Did a lot on the indoor trainer but I only track the time, nothing else. March and April were good. My conditioning peaked and it showed in my Strava times. The rest of the year was a struggle. Glad to see 2018 over with and looking forward to 2019.

7147.1 miles. On top of that maybe 10-12 miles on a trainer mounted bike.

you have wind/rain/and motorists on your indoor rides?
Yesterday it was raining/snowing while I was finishing up on 11,002 miles for the year. How many of your indoor rides were in mixed rain and snow?

The French Alps, which is why I have a fair amount of climbing. Temps here range from about 10F to 100F. I bike commute year round and ride in all kinds of weather, so I have quite a lot of gear (and bikes) to deal with the elements.

Let's hypothetically say that you train for a month (a week, a year, however long you think you'd need) and I did the same indoors and then you and I raced. How well do you think you'd fare with your outdoor rides versus my "not actual riding miles"?
Think you'd get dropped before or after we left the parking lot?

I have a buddy who rode 16,000.00 miles in 2018 and he isn’t retired. He lives on the bike. I am always running into him on the road and I only ride 4-5 times a week so it ain’t me that is making this coincidence not really a coincidence.

The body doesn’t know the difference between resistance created by an indoor trainer or the 8 mile climb on your favorite route. I do believe the brain is another story. There are cold and wet days were I just don’t have it in me to ride outside and in the rain and cold.

Indoor miles are great training, no doubt, but they are measured in hours, not miles. I've never traveled an inch while riding indoors.

A mileage pissing contest is exactly that: How many miles did you ride? And a mile is a unit of distance. If your bike sat in one spot in the man-cave for the entire duration of your workout, you didn't ride any miles no matter how many times or how hard you turned the pedals.
Save your bragging for the Unofficial 2018 Training Pissing Contest Thread. This thread is for people whose bikes actually move.
See, ^^^this guy gets it.

Bikes move on rollers. Just try it if you don't believe me.
And all miles are not the same. Some of us also ride gravel, MTB, etc.
Gravel is objectively more difficult than pavement and should have a 1.3x multiplication factor IMO. Road bike miles are nowhere near the same as MTB miles..
Since this is a pissing contest, at least 1000 of my miles were on a 48x15 or 48x16 fixed gear bike including one fixed gear century.

I don't include my commuting rides( about 2900 miles). JRA at 16mph for 5.5 miles on a FG bike, is hardly a warm-up, so I don't include it in my annual mileage.
