I did a 40 mile today but instead of a nice cool afternoon ride it was 85*F at 2:00pm and it was like riding during a July afternoon.

The ones I saw were very fat. I hope this doesn't mean a cold, snowy winter. As for intelligence, I wouldn't want to follow a slow moving bug trying to cross a busy road, lol.

Yesterday, I did long out-and-back repeats on the D&R canal trail. By extending my normal route a little at both ends, I increased the segment to 16 miles. There's a lot of road crossings but, otherwise, it's virtually straight and dead flat.

Same here. On Tuesday's ride, I was thinking "If there are this many on the road, imagine how many in the fields."

You can just picture a blanket of these things over the entire United States, NJ to California, crawling this way and that.

Yes, at least low to us.

I also enjoyed a low humidity, to us, twenty mile fitness ride after work this evening. My shorts and shirt were only partially soaked when I returned home.

First ride on the N+1 cyclocross bike today, and quite possibly the last ride of the season in the GWN. Off to warmer rides ... south of the 49.

18 mile ride in a new/different city. Work road trip, had an overnight in Columbus, Indiana. Nice town with tons of great architecture. Fair amount of MUP trails as well.

Yes I did get in a ride today.
Thanks for the links. It was interesting that one, Dr. C. H. Curran, who started the experiment of predicting the winter weather from the caterpillars in 1948, collected his specimens from the same park where I'm riding in now, Bear Mt (which is part of Harriman Park). Legend is that the more brown segments, the milder the winter. I'll check more closely when I go ride up there again. And the reason they're all scurrying around is that they recently hatched and are looking for winter homes, under logs and such.

No ride yesterday. I did some hill climbing on two feet instead.

Started off with a solo ride and ran into my riding buddy, 10 miles into the ride, at the northwest parking lot. Finished the rest of my 44 mile ride with him, but at a much slower pace than what I was planning. All-in-all, a great ride and a lot of fun. It doesn't get better than that!

Rode my commute again today. Took the '73 Raleigh Gran Sport. It was wonderful. The weather was clear and sunny when I left the house this morning, still sunny when I got off the train. But it clouded over before I got to work. And a hour or so later it started pouring rain at the office. Then about 2PM it stopped raining! The ride back to the station was soggy from wet roads but otherwise not a problem.

32 miles solo this morning. Humid, but not hot. Nice tailwind on the last few miles, but a good ride all in all. Made friends with a sweetheart of a half-grown Labrador pup at my mid-ride stop. She was just wanting some attention and someone to play with.

Did a slow 17 mile ride with the wife this morning getting her ready for tomorrow's charity ride. Couldn't ask for a better day for a bike ride and tomorrow is suppose to be the same.

Just finished my first metric century! Great day, coupled with a great ride. The last few miles were a bit tough, but I definitely plan to do this ride again (as well as look for a full century to train for).

I don't think so!!!! Don't need no stinking rip currents during the 2.4 mile swim for my Ironman.

102 miles today followed my 5K jog at a 9:50mpm pace, 2,500 yards swim yesterday, 2,000 yards swim Thursday, 4.5 mile jog followed by 41 miles on bike Wednesday, 4,500 yards swim Tuesday, 15 mile jog then 1,000yd swim Sunday, 101 miles bike last Saturday, 2,600yds swim Friday, 3,000yds swim Thursday......PLEASE DON'T NEED NO STINKING STORM in the Gulf on Nov. 2nd. Next week is last good effort week then taper begins.
