I have a Headsweats headband that I love, it keeps the sweat out of my eyes very well. I also bought a Sweat Vac ventilated cap, to keep my balding head from frying in the sun. It leaks sweat like a sieve.

Can anyone compare a Headsweats skull cap or beanie to a Sweat Vac in regard to sweat pouring into ones face? I would assume, since I love the headband, the Headsweats cap would use the same technology, no?

So, I want:

1) maximum protection from sweat dripping into my eyes
2) something to protect my pate from the sun

I'm also open to other ideas.

As a fellow follicularly-challenged gentleman, I have a drawer full of beanies-- Headsweats (regular and heavy-duty,) Mission Enduracool, Halo, Castelli, Baleaf, SPEG, and I'm sure there are a few more in there. The regular Headsweats is my everyday go-to. It works for most weather, and fits my 7 5/8 head reasonably well. The Headsweats Heavy Duty is nice, but the terry "band" at the front has a tendency to hold the sweat back for a long while... and then just release the torrent. Depending on the changing weather as the ride goes on, it can either be perfect, or have sweat just gushing down my face. Tough to predict, so I reserve it for cooler days. For absolutely maximum sweat protection, it's Halo. It's warmer, and it sweats more, but the little rubber strip makes all the difference. For hotter days with lots of climbing, that's the one. For hot days without the long, long climbs, the Mission Enduracool is the best. It has that "snap to cool" technology in it, and I genuinely notice I simply sweat less while wearing that cap. They fit a little tight on me, so I'm glad I only need to wear them if I know it's going to be up past 90º.

I can't compare, but I've been using the same SweatVac for about 8 years now. I wear it specifically because sweat never gets into my eyes (and my hair doesn't get messed up from the helmet vents). They're calling it the 6040 beanie now. I believe it was their only product out when I got mine. The only rides I don't wear it is when it's below 40, I wear a bandanna so I can cover my ears then.

All I can add is the headsweats product line is great.
My present client gave me some swag made by headsweats and it is amazing how my head doesn't get hot. I have worn these at work last week whilewits been 90° and humid. I was so impressed I bought a cycling cap

What is the "heavy duty"? I cannot seem to find it on their website. Or is that just the term for the terry sandwiched between two layers of Eventure™

I guess they call it the Super Duty now, and the terry is enclosed between two layers of fabric-- the one I have, the terry is out in the open. I can't imagine the second layer of Eventure dramatically changes the cap's behavior, but I dunno. Maybe it does.

Hell, since I like the sweat performance of my Headsweats headband, I just bought on of their Super Duty Shorty's.




What is that thingy in the back, by the way. Is it for neck sun protection?

In my experience, the little tail is helpful only in one regard: the little ratchet part on the back of helmets (if you have a helmet with a single ratchet) will sit right on it. It wouldn't protect from a whole lot of sun.

Unfortunately, at least for the Shorty line, I don't think they offer the old 'regular' version anymore (with the exposed Terry). Only SuperDuty now.

That's a one-size, right? What's the sizing like? I couldn't find any locally and I've got a big noggin', and a lot of caps ('specially the one-size fits most) don't work for me.

Try a cycling cap. Worn backwards, the brim pulls the sweat to the back and has the added bonus of shading your neck.

I sweat profusely and a scull cap shortly saturates and then runs into my eyes. I use a GUT'R, which is a headband designed with a, you guessed it, gutter that runs a crossed my forehead that collects sweat and channels it passed the eyes. without it I find it unsafe with sweat running into my eyes and much worse when you add sunscreen.
