I need to lower the stem, tilt the bars down so they are parallel to the ground and I might need to move the seat back a bit. I hate the compact drops and don't understand the skewers. Through axle? What's the advantage? Supposedly will fit 28c tires.
Also got a new seat bag, frame pump that attaches to the water bottle bosses and new water bottle cages in fiery red (not pictured herein.)
Below is the old grey mare. Many years and miles of service.

I just noticed that I need to level the saddle. It's going to take awhile to dial this in.
The new bike is a 56 vs. a 54 so that makes it a little more difficult to adjust. If I focus on making it feel the same it might be easier. After 15 years and two months of riding that thing I can tell what seems out of place.

With disc brakes, the braking force is enough to tear the wheel out of dropouts (in theory, I don't know how much this happens in practice). Another supposed advantage of TAs is that it's a more rigid connection that QRs, so better lateral stiffness and cornering - not something that I'm able to detect, though, it's not like I'm pushing things to the edge on the regular.

A cursory fit. It is a large national retailer not a LBS. Not going to get rjones28 service there.

I just ride 'em and that is about it so I am not up to speed with the new advancements. No real problems with the bikes I've had in the past.

Loosen clamp bolts at steerer tube, loosen top cap bolt. Remove stem.
Move desired number of spacers from under the stem to over the stem.
Replace stem. Install top cap, tighten enough to pre-load headset bearings. (can be tricky for some)
Tighten clamp bolts evenly and to the indicated torque spec.
Easy peasy.

on an unrelated note; I’m rally digging the Rapha core jacket you’re sporting. How do you find their sizing to be? Can I trust their sizing chart? The store near me doesn’t have them in stock, and I don’t want to buy two and having to ship one back since they don’t accept store returns of online purchases.
I did did try a brevet vest in the store, and even though the chart puts me at xl, I tried an L at the salesperson’s insistence and it fit better than the xl I tried afterwards, so I’m not sure how the sizing chart compares/relates to core jacket as well.
