105 5800 axle material

Have yet to tear into a 105 5800 hub and need to know if the axle is steel or aluminum. Anyone have info on this? Was able to find a schematic of the hub, and from the looks of it the axle could be either material.

My 6700 Ultegra are steel. I can’t imagine 105 to be aluminum

My 6800 threaded axles were steel, I'd assume the 5800 are too

Do you have a magnet? (Why do people hate first-hand experience so much?)

This was in my mind too, but the OP didn't seem to want to tear into his hub. On the 105-5800, you have to completely remove the steel lock nut to get to the axle to test. Personally I would have done this instead of trusting BF pundits.

Speaking as a pundit wannabe: The 105-5800 hub I had in my parts bin has steel axles.
