New riding buddy
My 4 year old grandson Elijah has ridden with me several times now and I think I've created a monster! He started off telling me to constantly slow down, but now it's "Faster Karlo, Faster!"
His mom tells me he tells her every day that when I get up or get home, we're going to watch bicycle racing then go for a bicycle ride.
Watch for the Tour de France results in 2034!

Enjoy it while it lasts, and hope he makes it through his teen years without rebelling against too many things. BTW, nice photo.

That`s terrific! I like to think I've had a hand in igniting the passion for cycling in all three of my grandchildren. I certainly never have to twist any arms to get them to ride with me.
It`s more like, `Grandpa, when can we go biking É (Dang keyboard won`t let me type a question mark. Grrrr)

All three of my grandson's have ridden with me at one time or another and it was great to spend the time with them. Now, just the youngest (5 yo) is the only one that wants to ride because he got a new, cool bike for his birthday. I love the time I spend with him riding around the neighborhood.

I ride with my 4yr old grandson Caden at least once a week. He is such a trip. We bought him a 16" Hotwheels theme bmx, the kind with the throttle on the right handgrip and tachometer w/noise effects. He revs it up with his little legs just hammering on the pedals laughing all the way down the sidewalk. I just coast along on my racer grinning and laughing.

It only gets better. My ten year old twin grandchildren both have road bikes now and road with me and my friends for 20 miles each day the week they were visiting me. My granddaughter wants to do group rides and paces steadily, my grandson lags back and whines until the last 1/4 mile from home then he sprints. We hit 24 when I kept up with him the last day My friends surrounded them and protected them while teaching them to ride safely on the road. I couldn't help but notice they followed what we did more closely than what we said. Probably something all us grandfathers ought to keep in mind

Great picture and that you are spending time with the grandson. No grand kids yet, but riding with our son, John, is one of my pleasures in life. I taught him how to ride bicycles and dirt bikes and rode/raced motocross with him. We now ride bicycles when he is home, soon to be back from his Baptist church mission to Quebec. I am getting the R500 he rides shaped up and it gets a complete going over by our LBS next week.

I agree, it's good that you're riding with your grandson and he is excited about it; very cool.
But, if you're not wearing a helmet, at least that is what the picture looks like.... I'm kinda sensative about helmets, had two wrecks in the last three weeks on big group rides. Broke two helmets, an accident can happen when you least expect it, trust me, I'm living proof. LAst satruday the helmet was cracked in three spots.
First 7,000 miles never happened and then boom (six riders down) and two weeks later a bigger boom (four riders down, two went to the hospital). Just my opinion; safety in group rides, well that is another subject altogether. I'm not riding with anyone I don't totally trust for awhile.

Took the training wheels off my sons bikes when they were 4. On our first big ride, the oldest said to me, "Know what dad, I'm not a quitter." It brought tears to my eyes as we made it 10 miles from home on a rails to trails path.

Since starting back cycling in 2007, I can count the rides I've taken without a helmet on one hand. Guess I got a little excited myself that he was having such a good time. Since we've been riding almost every day since I first posted this, a few things have changed. After seeing my sunglasses(while wearing my helmet, thank you!), He came up this week with some 3D glasses and told me he had his riding glasses now too. We ride awhile and then he wants to watch some of the Tour stages I have saved.
