guys! guys! lets keep it civilized. I can see tensions are rising. but the whole aim of this thread is to see who wants to end the confusion by make a section that is not any bit part of the e bike section. 24 out of 32 people so far thing this is a step in the right direction.

Cheese,
Z and I are not being uncivilized, we just have different points of view.
The way Anne was treated in the stuck thread is uncivilized.

I'm outspoken here because this is the same way Ebikes were treated before this forum was opened.
Trying to find any info about them always ended in a flame war of people saying they did not belong on the forums. The same thing happens here if an ICE biker starts a thread, I think that is a shame.

So, where else is one supposed to ask questions about motor assisted but non electric bikes but here?
Exactly. There isn't enough traffic to warrant a stand alone forum, BUT I still get contacted from time to time by folk asking about other forms of motor assist and where they can be discussed. My local supplier of both ICE and electric kits can't keep stock on the shelves at the moment due to demand, - and since New Zealand can't be the only place where petrol (gasoline) is getting expensive and running a car is getting beyond some family budgets I think it is entirely appropriate to ease out a space in the e.bike forum for all other forms of motorised propulsion.
Personally I have a great interest in steam and using compressed air is something that I would like to explore as well. The batteries in my own e.tricycle are going to need to be replaced after 2 years hard use and I'm pretty concerned about their safe disposal. I had considered getting myself a wee pony to haul a little gig like one of my neighbours did for personal transport back when I was a smallholder, but that's not without its problem either since a pony takes a lot of looking after if you want it to stay happy and healthy. In seeking to expand the e.bike forum I'm trying to look to a much larger future not kick over anybody's personal sandpit.

Anne,
You can take them to your local auto shop. They will be recycled along with the worn out auto batteries.

the poll does show so far that many people want the new forum. but i guess we need a bit more discussion about it.

vote for two forums

Hi all, I am new to this group. I have built an ICE bike and now awaiting my amped bike kit. My interest is in both and it would make most sense to have eached discussed individually in their own forum. As indicated each have their own issues to be discussed. I would subscribe to both and keep on topic in each.

Yes that's true Allen, - only NZ's sole major battery recycling plant recently caused a ruckus by springing toxic leaks and almost poisoning the neighbourhood around it. The problem has now been fixed, but it still was a stern warning that battery recycling is a dangerous business if it's not being done properly.
