Should I get a Flying Pigeon?
This one's available on Craigslist. I have no idea if the asking price is reasonable or completely out of line. Thought it might be fun to have a Flying Pigeon just for the heck of it.

It would be a good conversation piece, but probably not much of a ride. I would not even consider one unless I had the room for it and and extra $100. Oh wait, I've got the room, how much is it?

Guy's asking $300, which seems awfully steep.

That sounds way to steep to me. There was an article about them a while back in bicycle magazine. To the best of my recollection they weigh about 40 lbs. and new in China are pretty inexpensive. I googled it and the first site I went to sells them new for $300. https://flyingpigeon-la.com/

He wants what he paid for it. It's listed on CL so of course it's rare, what bike listed on CL is not? The Chinese build and sell a bicycle engine specifically made for the Flying Pigeon.
These bicycle engines are available here in the USA. I think it would be fun to order a new Flying Pigeon and put a bicycle engine kit on it just like the picture above.

I'm going to pass up this rare, once in a lifetime opportunity. I doubt I'll regret it.

Weren't you looking for a garage or something to rent a few weeks ago? It sounds to me like you've got an advanced case of BAD (bicycle acquisition disease). That's not a good thing.

I keep the Orange Crush and the Grocerymobile outside on the locked patio. Hey, it never rains in Southern California! I can move them into the garage during our monsoon season I suppose.

I've got a Chinese 'Wu Yang' bicycle and I really like it. I've got a 'Phoenix' too, but it would be awfully nice to own a 'Flying Pigeon' :sigh:

I understand that Lance will be riding a Flying Pigeon on at least a couple of stages of the 2009 TDF.

Don't buy that one. Come and visit me here, and buy a nearly new one from one of the bike shops that cater for the overworked and underpaid Indians who are building all the new construction sites. You'll get a nice one for about 30 Dinars.
Fly here on British Airways - they carry 'one item of sporting goods - bicycle, skis, golf clubs' free. Bring your roubaix, and have a couple of rides with me and pals.
Then take the pigeon home on the same ticket.
You'll have to leave the roubaix with me, but that's ok, I've got the space.

They'll soon discover that Flying Pigeons were built with melamine to make the tubes look like cro-mo instead of high-tension. Those Chinese rascals! Self-destruction right after the warranty expires.
I once worked at a bike shop that stocked a Flying Pigeon. It sat there gathering dust for months until I actually sold it to a cat with more money than brains. Yes, they are heavy and awkward and as I recall they use the antiquated rod-activated brakes, which are quite quaint and amusing to look at until you need to make an emergency stop. But they are a great conversation piece for those who are leftward-leaning, a fine complement to your Communist Party membership card. A nice souvenir of cold war technology. Remember the Russian and Chinese MiGs that used vacuum-tubes in their electronics?
BTW, loved the picture of the Swiss Army bike. Wasn't there a paratrooper version that folded? That would be tres cool, especially if it came in Swiss Army red with the cross logo on the head tube.

I dunno.... anything with a decal like that on it HAS to be worth big bucks.....
While I'd say the price is a bit high that is a really unique cruiser bike.
