Which bike trainer do you use?
if you use zwift or do any indoor cycling on a trainer, what trainer do you use? i was interested to see whether the trainer's like the kickr one where you take back wheel off or the tacx one i got that connects to the back wheel, i just wondered which trainer is better and more accurate. thanks.

I use a Wahoo Kickr direct drive for intervals. Now that is is light out later, I hope not to see that bastard again until next winter.

I can't compare the two, but this winter switched from a "dumb" fluid trainer to a Wahoo Kicker Snap. I tried Zwift, not for me. Instead went with Rouvy. It's been a big improvement over the dumb trainer and pretty realistic in terms of terrain, effort, etc. Having said that, no trainer can replace the real world outside in my opinion.

hey thanks for the replies there, i often wonder about some of the indoor stationary exercise bikes from about 600 ish upwards, the smartscreen with bluetooth, wether that would connect with zwift or virtugo or trainerroad program's. i remember my bud said a good £1000 plus watt bike would work. i keep thinking as long as you got bluetooth on the spin bike and ant+ dongle on your laptop and the speed and cadence sensors on exercise bike that it should work. saves buying a new trainer like 700 plus for a good one lol my trainer was 335 by tacx.

I used to use a Kurt Kinetic fluid trainer. Very quiet and nice to use
I picked up a Diamondback dedicated exercise bike which is also very quiet and works quite well. I just watch videos when I ride.

I have a cycleops magnus which is a wheel on smart trainer. I really enjoy it and it works well. That being said, I wish I would have spent the extra money for the direct drive version.

I have a tacx vortex entry level smart trainer. I bought it because it was $240 and I could justify that to try a smart trainer where I couldn't justify the amount they generally cost. It is fine but I'm sure it is crap compared to one of the highend trainers.

As a recumbent rider, I go to the gym in the winter time and ride the recumbent bike trainers there.

Seriously if your going to Zwift get a "smart" version of a trainer its so much easier for set up. And really any of the major brands will treat you fine, its like a ford vs. chevy comparison. They all do work well once set up.

I have a 1UP trainer. You leave the rear wheel on. No smart-anythng.
I also have a set of rollers. Sometimes that keeps it a little more interesting.
I don’t use either one all that much, only when I know there is no way of getting outside for a few weeks. In the dead of winter I can get some rides in on the fat bike, so it is mostly the beginning and end of winter.

If the expense for a smart trainer is worth it for you, go for it.
Otherwise, I would just use a good-value used trainer (CycleOps fluid 2 in our case. Good enough to take singles and our tandem).

I used a BKool Pro (1st version) for years and then upgraded to a Tac-X Genious. I use my trainers with the BKool software and Zwift.
